Have always done this. Never smoked on a regular basis, but will have one or two after a full snootfull of beers.

A good cigar with a glass of quality bourbon on the patio or at Keeneland for the races is a damn satisfying feeling. Especially after that bet pays out.

To me, that is forming an opinion and a negative one at that.

not really. The act of smoking doesn't bother me at all. I don't have any problem people coming over to smoke at my house, just like I don't have any problem with people taking shits at my house. I just don't want them to do either in the living room

I smoke and wish I had never picked up this nasty habit. Quit and made it a year before I picked it up again upon the death of my little brother last year. It was one of the few things we had in common, you see.

I think you're definitely underselling how addictive nicotine is as a substance.

My Mom quit for several years but picked back up the day my brother died. It took her taking Chantix to knock it the first time around. She's easily one of the strongest people I know from a mental standpoint given what she's been through.

Depends entirely on what is being smoked

Fine cigars and pipe tobacco don't bother me a lick, they smell good.

Cigarettes are cancer sticks made of tar and general nastiness and smell like shite. I honestly think the people who put those things into their bodies are the dumbest mother frickers on earth.

This x1000
I can't even have cigars, because I'll start smoking cigarettes again. Before this last time, I had quit around 50 times minimum. I LOVE NICOTINE! I'll lie to myself so I can have it. It's a full blown addiction I'll have forever.
That being said, I quit 2/1/14. When I get really stressed out, I take a nicotine lozenge. It's still that much a part of my life.

Good luck to all. I pray my kids don't ever even get tempted to try cigarettes.

Fair enough, but your mother also suffered a life altering event that plays into this. I can absolutely believe people who have been smokers and quit going back after a life event like that.

There is no question smoking is an addictive behavior that would be difficult to change. I think all change in behavior starts with will and desire.

My dad lit a cigarette within 30 seconds of waking up in the morning, probably smoked 2 before the morning coffee was ready.

First, it's not a habit. It's an addiction. Like any other addiction.

I dipped for a decade or so and quit cold turkey a year and a half ago. I still crave it occasionally and quitting was a real bitch. But I was tired of being a slave.

As to my opinion of those that do? I feel bad for people addicted to anything. It annoys me that I have to smell their shite. One guy smoking can spread their smell for acres.

Oh, and littering. And lit cigarettes out of car windows during the dry season. Those traits are particularly endearing.

I started smoking when I was 15. I quit when I was 32. I'm 45 now.

As for folks that do, it's their thing. I understand the addiction. But I'm glad I quit. I feel better, food tastes better and it's tough being around the smoke now, as it chokes me up which surprises me. However, one has to be ready to quit and they have to do it for their own reason, not for someone else or because they've been nagged to. I'm not the Nazi ex-smoker that downs smokers. Hope they kick the habit though.

I also think smokers' health insurance should be much higher than for nonsmokers.

There are studies that show that, over their lifetimes, smokers actually use LESS health care service and resources than nonsmokers, although for a bad reason. They die sooner.

Smoked for 35 years. Had a heart attack smoking one. Had open heart surgery. Talked to the Dr before I left the hospital..He said I could change my lifestyle and might live to see my grandchildren grow up, if I didn't he gave me no chance. I haven't had one since the one with the Heart attack.
If you smoke quit. Smoking can kill you in so many ways.

I smoke weed regularly, have an occasional cigar, and on the absolute rare ocassIon I'll drunk smoke a cigarette.

I carry a can of dip with me sometimes. Mainly during softball games but also camping/kayaking etc.

I know plenty of "classy" and "trashy" people that smoke cigarettes. My only preference would be to not smoke cigarettes inside my house - pot is OK of course.
