Christian rappers claim exactly what you're saying. I had to clarify for this thread's purposes, but Lecrae, Mineo, etc. do exactly what you've described. They're rappers that are Christians and nothing more.
there's a lot of christian non-rappers that have taken the same approach.
paramore, need to breathe, POD, Sufjan Stevens, , Avett Brothers, U2, the fray, mat kearney, lifehouse, flyleaf, etc
the attitude is that of, if you are a christian who's a plumber, you're not a christian plumber who only works for other christians.
so they don't feel the need to just sing christian songs so that only christians can enjoy.

If that's the case, then more power to them.

They don't make music just for Christians, though. You're mistaking a descriptor for exclusivity.

Again, no christian artist is preventing/keeping non Christian's from enjoying said music.

Right. Of course, for many of these artists, the ones that are really serious about their Christianity, it's going to permeate their music, which is why I call it Christian music.
It's not quite the distancing of some groups/artists, i.e. Carrie Underwood's Jesus Take the Wheel and Temporary Home are a few Christian songs, but she mostly sings about other things.

no i agree with you brosephus, i'm just saying that a lot of the listed artist specifically don't sign with christian labels for that reason.
now a lot of them may sign with the secular label because there's more money, but i actually know 2 members of flyleaf who said they never plan on making a million bucks, but went secular because they know that nonchristian will probably never hear their music if they went with forefront or sparrow records.

The problem, I think for Christian rappers as opposed to some rock stuff and most definitely country stuff, is good record labels won't want them because of the message. Country accepts it because of the culture.

Completely agree. Especially as mainstream rap has become more hardcore in our lifetimes.

I just wanna drop in and say most of the people who hate "Christian music" are probably thinking of the same thing I do when I hear those words - the cheesy crappy music.
I think it'd be better if the artists were just Christians in a band than to be a Christian band. Those are usually the best ones musically. Naturally, their faith will permeate their lyrics, but that's not the selling point of their music.
I'm sure those points have been touched on, but I just wanted to throw my support behind those bands/artists.
I don't like hype rap, but I liked what I heard from Mineo and Swoope. I could live without all those songs with the R&B singer in them, but that's just never been my personal cup of tea. I like pure hip-hop.
Since we're listing our favorite songs from "Christians" in bands in some of these posts:
Underoath - "Reinventing Your Exit"
Emery - "Walls"
Blindside - "Caught A Glimpse"
Relient K - "Softer to Me"
MxPx - "Punk Rawk Show"
If you can't tell, I grew up in the late 90s/early 2000s as a punk/emo kid. Haha
I actually geeked out last year when I met the lead singer of MxPx at an acoustic show in Dallas. I brought my guitar to the show and got him to sign it and spent an hour talking to him about how MxPx helped me so much because it was tough to try and be a punk AND Christian growing up. Especially in small-town Mississippi.

Hate me, bro!
ETA - It was also kind of a funny situation because we were both pretty drunk and he's in an alt-country band now and sings about booze and pot a lot. Haha

No one can show their emotion through their hair quite like David Tennant.

True.
When you say punk, you mean like Bad Brains and Vandals punk, right?

Them and the entire range from Minor Threat to Fugazi to Jawbreaker to the stuff you probably hate like Sum 41 and Blink.

I liked them up until Does This Look Infected. Went downhill from there.
If I remember correctly, one of the guitarists left.

Quite possibly. Once that album came out I was transitioning to the "emo" stage of my life where Taking Back Sunday, Thursday, Brand New and Thrice ruled my speakers.

Ah, well if we're just talking about the first two albums, I loved Sum 41. Until I saw them live.
They had a few good songs. Actually liked some Senses Fail too.

TBS was my favorite band for a long long time. I gave them way more chances to right the ship than I should have. Haha
I did see Lucero for the first time ever at a Taking Back Sunday show, though, as weird as that may sound. Lucero opened for them in Nashville and the lead singer of TBS made them play every song they had written at that point. They played longer than TBS did.
I really liked Senses Fail's very first EP they put out with "Steven" and "Bloody Romance" on it, but didn't listen to much after that outside of songs other people played in their houses or cars.
