Demon Hunter is Christian. I actually have a couple of their CDs.

Good Christian music is coming out and its time to ditch the stigma.

The only way to "ditch the stigma" is to not call it "Christian" music. There's zero point in dubbing it that and only makes the artist sound self serving.

Christian Hype Music

When doing yard work and whatnot, I prefer to listen to some Pillar, P.O.D., Red, Project 86, Skillet, Blindside, Classic Crime, Alter Bridge, and War of Ages.

Profiting off of faith. They're the modern day televangelists.

And that's wrong how? Never understood people who took issue with this.

They make music about a subject many care about. We give them money for that service so they can focus on doing it full time, which strengthens their ministry and helps encourage believers. It's not like it's a scam.

Not even close.

God is not a for profit business. That's what's wrong with it.

Do you have a problem with country or hip-hop artists labeling their music as such?

Like it or not, Christian music is a genre in and of itself these days.

Please elaborate. I don't guess pastors should be paid either, huh?

Genres aren't supposed to describe what the artist is or believes, they're supposed to describe the style of music. So why describe the music as "Christian?" Because the artist includes lyrics that reference Christianity? So what? The artist is just admitting that the music isn't up to snuff and uses the Christian label to overcome that.

Christians are supposed to be Christian in everything that they do. If it was really about getting Christ's message out, the music should be directed at everyone and not just believers.

To be honest, "Christian" is a musical style these days.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with Christian music nor Christian artists making money selling CDs and other memorabilia.

I would rather spend my time and money listening to Christian artists singing songs about their faith then the junk that you hear everyday on the radio about drugs, sex, and alcohol.

Tell me more about how terrible Christian music is these days. Please use specific examples.

It's not free to be a musician full time.

Ridiculous to take issue with folks making their living from it.

No different from being a pastor full time.

It's always been a "style," but only in the sense that it was an easy out for people (parents especially) who didn't want to evaluate their music's lyrics or message independently.

There's no official rules designating such.

Duh.

Also, so those of us who care for such music (a bigger market than you think) can easily find it.

Oh please. Now you're just hating

This is preposterous. Anyone can turn on the radio right now and find a Christian station. Last I checked you don't have to be a believer to tune in.

Hell, you don't even have to be a believer to enjoy the genre. Plenty of friends of mine aren't Christians and can still give it up for a good track/beat from a Christian artist.

Ok.

Listen to some modern Christian music. It's as good as anything else out there, no matter what genre you want to compare it to.

Christian rappers claim exactly what you're saying. I had to clarify for this thread's purposes, but Lecrae, Mineo, etc. do exactly what you've described. They're rappers that are Christians and nothing more.
