What about what he/she did shows courage in sports? It's typically supposed to be a sports-oriented award. Bruce Jenner won a gold medal in 1976. And hasn't been an athlete or involved in sports in a long time.

Lauren Hill on the other hand played collegiate basketball with terminal brain cancer at the age of 19 and raised $1.5 million dollars in cancer research during that fight.

Now do we really want to debate what's more courageous in sports? Because I'm pretty sure your mouthbreathing arse would lose that argument.

This is a topic where I agree with the Bible thumping so-cons. Bruce Jenner is a male with a psychological disorder. He is living out a delusion which is being reinforced by the society he lives in.

This is no different than encouraging someone with the delusional belief that they are Bruce Willis.

I agree with this stance as well. I'm glad that he's happy living out his life the way he wants to live it, and I'm also glad today's society has chosen to support him, but there is something mentally off about wanting to become a women when you were born a man. Have you honestly felt that something was wrong with you since you were little? Or did you just grow up around Barbies and pretty girls and were jealous that your mom and dad didn't let you wear dresses and high heels?

I would love to see an experiment where someone grows up without being exposed to the traditional gender stereotypes to see if they would naturally lean towards masculine or feminine roles once they were introduced into the real world.

I just can't for the life of me understand why any man would want to be a woman. Why give up all of that privilege just to lead a life of laundry doing and sammich making?

I agree. I felt sure she would get the award. If she isn't the perfect role model of courage in sports, then there just isn't one.

I'm really trying not to be that normal person in our society who overreacts to things that don't effect them at all and look for every opportunity to be offended BUT

This is complete and total bullshite

My head gets closer to exploding every day with this shite.

Do you really, REALLY think that folks are ok with this or are people just too scared of being publicly shamed by others who also deep down don't believe this is ok, but are also terrified of the backlash of their opinions?

ETA: Root cause of our societies problems: Too many scared sissies.

The fact that I had to mentally backtrack to remind myself who LH was while Jenner has been on every type of media outlet under the sun with no end in sight shows what a fine kettle of fish this nonsense has become

Hell, I'm as staunch a Christian as they come, and I'm not even opposed based on faith issues. If people wanna be weird and act a fool, I say let 'em go right ahead.

I'm just opposed to attention whores, and Jenner has been as big a one as any of his cockamamie family. This is gender change thing is just another in a long line of "look-at-me!" capers off which they make a living. Not a goddamn thing to do with "courage."

It's amazing how much people all of a sudden care about the Arthur Ashe Award now that a transgender is winning it.

You've missed the point entirely. I would imagine few, if any, people on this board care who wins the Nobel Peace Prize. But people would probably be upset if bruce won it due to some reason like "promoting peace and equality through all walks of life due to his/her courageous efforts to be true to herself" or whatever.
