Bush received false intel. I'm no supporter of his, but I don't believe he intentionally lied.

Exactly ... Bush could be incredibly stupid at times, but he wasn't a liar.

The guy in office right now, is the epitome of the consummate liar - perhaps the most criminal lying sack of shite of all time. Literally, if his lips are moving he is lying.

If 10+ years wasn't enough, then sideways 8 wouldn't be enough time either. Removing a dictator who commits human rights violations just so we can instead is not the brightest idea... Gitmo, indiscriminate droning, water boarding and other torture. We've achieved nothing, wasted trillions, lost and maimed several upstanding young men, and managed to prove we were the shitty occupiers the terrorists said we'd be. To top it off some of you want to do it again

Momentous day. 1) I agree with you. Didn't think that was possible, and 2) You're back. Several of us were afraid you had offed yourself.

You're pretty naïve if you believe that.

A fellow from the Al-Janabi tribe seeking amnesty created that story and it was gathered through German intel but was not immediately released to Fiveeyes. The guy was the son of a Batthist Shitte who was a friend of Hussein. All this is documented, even to the levels of not having enough evidence to support the claim. Was it created by us? frick no you conspiracy snorting blowhard. Was the intel there from a known source but not confirmed? Absolutely

Bush got the ball rolling in this foreign policy disaster going to war in Iraq. Obama make the political move instead of the strategic one pulling out when we did. The last thing you want anywhere in the Middle East is a power vacuum.

FWIW, stopping ISIS/ISIL/IS requires the Arab states in the region to say "enough" and be the bodies on the ground. If we clean it up, it'll be ISIS in another name five years from now and it'll be back in a different name.

I'm conservative and I'll admit that this is complete bullshite.

Most of that would have happened anyways. The Middle East has been in turmoil since biblical times.

Putin would have still invaded Ukraine because he used the opportunity to take advantage of a war weary America, knowing the people wouldn't support us getting involved. Doesn't matter if we had an R or a D in office.

The problem with this is terrorism and sectarian violence can be two different things to them but indistinguishable to us. Those family / religion lines are drawn much deeper into the sand than any government border over there as well.

The only way to defeat groups like ISIS is

1. Scorched Earth. Basically disregard civilians and just wipe the area out.

2. Find the source of their weapons and funding and cut it off. Of course, we are the actual source of many of the arms they acquired because we keep supporting rebel groups in the ME. If we stop intervening over there, a lot of this wouldn't happen.

Let's back up to Carter and Iran. Or we can go further. Never mind, let's not.
