Are human-like service robots just around the corner? I think so.

I've been following Boston Dynamics for a few years and their advances are picking up rapidly. Atlas represents their version of a human-like robot.

They're also making 4-legged robots. This is Wildcat.

That must be the Amish model, it should have kicked that guy's arse, for pushing it over with the stick.

I wonder what would happen to one of those robots if you tazed it?

Did it begin with military contracts?

Those were cool Terminator movies. I'm sure that will be much later but who can really say?

Once we make robots that can reproduce themselves, the pace of their evolution will accelerate exponentially.

The first robots will fill the porn needs of the geeks who build them, just you wait.

Porn was the driving force that made the Internet a common utility after Al Gore invented it.

However, it seems that the military, in true Skynet fashion, will be the catalyst for robot development. Robots are just too expensive in the early stages we're seeing.

Maybe later.

They're lacking emotion chips for now. Mustn't rush into things.

Actually, that demonstration illustrates how very far Atlas has advanced just in the past few months. It nearly stayed upright even with such a violent push.

It can walk across almost any terrain and not fall. There was a robot challenge contest a few months ago and Atlas didn't even finish the course.

Since Google bought Boston Dynamics in 2013, there have been remarkable advances. Google is infusing much-needed research money that's attracting top scientists from around the world.

More exciting news can be expected in the coming months.

Oh, long before then.

AggieBelle will probably have an assistant service robot that gets overly protective of her.

Wildcat sounds like a really, really, out-of-control fart.

Just what you need around the house

A giant black robot spider LINK

This would be the only robot I want, way better than Skynet LINK

"Where there is one, there is more" LINK Time to kill Australia with fire!

Comments were good, but "What a waste, kids in Africa could have eaten that spider" made me laugh the most
