I just have always parked in that pay lot across the street. Every restaurant validates so you don't even have to pay.

So much so that it's nearing the point that something needs to be done for transportation. Parking on a night the Barons are playing is a nightmare and Uptown parking consistently sucks.

I've thought that someone could make a killing if they started a golf cart taxi service that was designed just to transport people a couple of blocks. For travel that would be a smidge far to walk and too close to take a cab or Uber.

To say people don't like going downtown is simply incorrect. Some may not but it's become far more popular than previously.

Alahunter's opinion is coming from the viewpoint of a middle aged north Jefferson county resident. I wouldn't put much stock into what he thinks is the popular opinion of the city.

But I think this proposal is awesome. I wish UAB could get its on campus stadium, but this proposal is a better move for the city as a whole IMO.

Looks similar to the University of Houston's stadium. I've followed Birmingham's development and it's impressive. The job growth has risen by 17% since 2010 and the growth rate is above national avg. of 16%. Here's a good look at all the projects going on.

Birmingham needs to do something, but I'm paranoid at Alys Stephens.

Texas de Brazil is a fun experience. Pricy but fun. If you ever go you should starve yourself all day.

I need to go there. I haven't been to that uptown area around the BJCC. We usually go to the Barons, RR Park, Lakeview, or Avondale. I haven't been to Southside in a while except a trip to the J Clyde a couple of months ago.

If San Antonio can't make a dome all-that-successful, Birmingham's dome would've been a disaster

When Publix opens downtown, it'll be the start of additional retail coming to downtown. Could possibly see a potential "shopping street" kind of deal in the near future.

I was very excited to hear the redevelopment of the Empire Building and becoming a Marriot hotel project.

If Birmingham is going to build a stadium, I think it'd be interesting to have one with unique angles. Something like Soldier Field and not a SMU's stadium copycat

This would be wildly successful if the don't allow reconstruction of the interstate bridges downtown.

Relocating them along the existing but unused roadbed north of the downtown area would allow an almost unbroken area from Uptown, through the financial district, to RR park, to UAB and Southside.

I really wish they could relocate the interstate. Would do wonders for downtown. As it is, the BJCC/Uptown is sort of "cut off" from the rest of downtown. Its a mental barrier as well.

And speaking as a middle aged, North Shelby County resident, his opinion isn't inline with other middle aged North Shelby County residents I know. We all go downtown all the time.

I think something along the lines of Houston's stadium would be good.

And I'm very excited about them building this. Hopefully we can update the BJCC and get more NCAA tourney games.

UAB fans(Auburn fans) should thank the University of Alabama for this.

if it wasn't for us coming down and saying no more, action by UAB fans(Auburn fans)/city of Birmingham would have never even been broached. it would have continued to flounder.

Soon Auburn fans will begin to ask for the shutdown of UAB football. Because UAB will begin taking recruits away.

This may be the downfall of Auburn football as we know it.

UAB may already be the second best program in the state at this point.

I agree with that....The UA BOT sending a message they weren;t interested in funding a loss making operation maybe will galvanize the city and whatever booster community UAB has to actually get of their arse and start making it happen for real and stop sucking off that Bama tit.

...but Birmingham needs a new stadium for sure
