And the major problem is that guys like me would be almost automatic Republicans -- but they just have no other alternative. Usually when you have a dissenting opinion, the strength of that opinion is founded on a different path or idea.

They don't have ideas. They just non-stop criticize everything then make false claims of small government. I find it to be untenable that the federal government have limited power but a state has all the power in the world to enact whatever laws they want -- which is a posited and non-hyperbolic position by conservatives at this point.

"Don't like it? Move." Really bizarre, and I hope the conservatives field some more contemporary, sensible thinkers in this next election.

Exactly.

My biggest complaint about the 'pubs at the moment is that they aren't being nearly obstructionist enough.

Welcome to the democratic party and the entitlement complex of this nation.

It's which next celebrity president can we vote for without knowing a damn thing about them.

Last time that happened, Democrats were in office for a couple decades.

Same thing happened to the Dems during Reagan and Bush Sr., there was splintering within the party, you had the catastrophe of Jimmy Carter, and then the Republicans got an actor elected president twice.

I doubt that republicans get so bad that we elect President Clooney, but you never know.

That's great for the 40% who were voting Republican anyway. Without putting forth ideas however, you're not going to get much of anyone else.

Oh I'm sorry, did you think that everyone on the internet shared the same opinion as you?

I don't mind Stonehog. These political threads need more than just the ever reasonable Spleen or myself being the token "liberals". I like feeling like a conservative voice sometimes.

Nice narrative. Not true (about not "putting forth ideas"), but a very nice narrative.

In the meantime, if someone is kicking you in the nuts, I imagine you will first try to put a stop to it before you calmly explain to him your ideas as to other places he should be putting his foot.

Let me guess, global warming is still going to kill us all here in the next couple of weeks.

I should probably not leave my house and hide in a shelter correct.

Agree with everything in your OP. They real scared of Hilldog for 2016.

If they could put forth a moderate candidate that doesn't go super extreme and scare off everyone in the middle during their primary season they wouldn't have to resort to mudslinging her years in advance of her running.

Why is it ok to have a super extreme liberal that has implemented a socialist, universal health care to the tone of 980 Billion dollars, but conservatives are crazy people for having extremes?

ETA: Conservatives are extremists, Liberals are just level headed dudes trying to do right by the american people.

John Mccain was about as moderate as they come.

They spent more time attacking his age and how he would die within 4 years than his policies. I hope they mudsling the hell out of her and her ugly cankles.

Global Warming is nothing more than a scam and a billion dollar scam at that. Al Gore has went from being a low funded millionaire to a billionaire. Good job

There's nothing socialist nor really universal about Obamacare. 85% of it is actually a Republican's wet dream, but because it's attributed to Obama it's the worst thing ever created.

Conservatives are extremists

The prevailing voice of the conservative movement has become extreme since 2010, though I do see that waning a bit. Should be an interesting election season.

Jindal's got a nice healthcare plan and I forget who it was recently that put out a very interesting tax code proposal. It's just not getting any press, and it's the conservative press that's missing the boat. There are ideas on the right, but the GOP cheerleaders are too busy yelling about all the evil wrongness Obama is doing to even float those balloons. It's because your base eats that shite up.

quote:

a very nice narrative.

That the base and the conservative voices in media actively help to illustrate. Anytime someone breaks rank on the hardline of any issue, they are called out for being RINOs. I've seen pretty much every writer for the WSJ editorial board call out for being too liberal. A little more flexibility and a reasonable foot forward would go a long way.

The right has the momentum. Obama isn't that popular and won't be come 2016. Now is the time to highlight the difference in ideas and start a more reasonable dialogue that can attract more moderates with what I think are better ideas. The problem is, if those ideas aren't ideologically pure the base eats them alive.

As a Socialist from the "to each according to his contribution" camp, Liberals for goddamn sure don't represent anything near Socialism, nor are the majority of them extremists.

As for the conservative party: They're not all crazy, but there's a large chunk who think President Obama is a Kenyan Muslim sleeper agent who managed to slip by all of the heads at Washington without any problems.

And that's frickin' crazy.
