Taxes I guess. The fact is the Gov is in the marriage business. They deal out the lisences. Which in and of itself is ridiculous. The fact that I need a license to get married is stupid. But if I can marry any street walker off the block for just a little coin, I don't get why two bros or chicks, can't do the same. What does gender have to do with marriage?

I'm not a Democrat, but if I were, I'd say that Republicans should keep arguing against civil unions for the sake of single-issue voters

I believe that I might have come up with a compromise to this whole problem that will make everyone happy! People in the gay community want the same rights as married couples, but dissenters don't want the word "marriage" corrupted. So how about we let gay people get married, but call it something else?

Homosexuals will have all the exact same rights as married couples, but, instead of referring to them as "married", they can be... butt buddies.

Instead of being "man and wife", they'll be... butt buddies. They won't be "betrothed", they'll be...butt buddies. Get it? Instead of a "bride and groom", you'd be...Butt Buddies

What grinds my gears is many people don't just want tolerance, they want to change people's way of thinking that being gay is a good thing. I can be tolerant of something and still not agree that it is right.

religion is the only argument against it and religion should have nothing to do with government. Let the churches recognize the term marriage and let the government recognize unions and go on about their day.

Some good stuff already posted.

Gay sex can't make babies. A couple with a baby is a family. Multiple related families form a tribe. Multiple tribes make up a nation. Therefore baby-less sex undermines nations.

What about heterosexual couples in which the male is infertile or the female is barren?

Honestly, I view homosexuality as a naturally occurring phenomenon that helps to limit the growth of our species.

Well, clearly women look at something like that and say "I gotta get me some of that", otherwise we'd be a short-lived species. Personally, I like Coke, but I know people who like Pepsi; I think Pepsi is gross but I don't fault people who like it, they just prefer things different than I do. Sex between two consenting adults is their deal, everyone else needs to frick off.

You are a terrible person. I take that back, you're not even a person, you're subhuman. Your desire for Pepsi is perverted and unnatural. If you don't change your ways, you'll burn in hell.

The OP's thread is about arguments against it not hey lets hold hands and sing Kum Ba Yah.

Part of the education process for societal acceptance on previously perceived taboo subjects is understanding all the aspects of societies prejudice.

I fear that allowing gay marriage could make being gay seem ok or normal in society to younger children and that will lead to more "experimenting" as they mature

There is no valid argument when religion isn't used. Hell, religion isn't even a valid argument, as we do not live in a theocracy.

They can't reproduce? Well, neither can the infertile couple or the elderly couple who found the person that they want to marry late in life. Should they not be allowed to be married?

You think it's gross? Well, I think two nasty morbidly obese people together are fricking gross, but I'm not trying to tell them that they can't get married.

It's not "biologically correct?" Tell that to the thousands of species in which same sex copulation is naturally occurring.

You're scared that it'll turn your kids gay? When did you decide to be straight? You don't turn gay. You either are or aren't.

then why is there homosexuality?
The honest answer is perversion. Society hates to say that because that would make homosexuality "wrong", but its the truth. I believe homosexuality exists the same reason beastiality or pedophiles exist (not saying homosexuality is as bad as beastiality/pedophiles just using it as an example). People get their rocks off to different stuff.

How could it possibly affect you?
It doesn't which is why I said I don't care, but it still goes against all living things biological purpose. Survive/evolve/reproduce.
