So, what's up with the state of Alabama? Birmingham, Montgomery, Huntsville, Mobile? Where do the kids eventually go to school? What's the makeup of these cities and such?

So the slightly more negative stereotypes about each area

Huntsville is where all the stereotype "NASA engineers" live, good schools and generally speaking solid albeit small cities all around. Big Auburn support due to engineering focus + Aerospace school at AU being a pipeline

Birmingham Inner city BHam is dangerous, all the stereotype "white racists" segregate into the suburbs and send their kids to Briarwood or a suburban school. Mostly Alabama fans/grads but solid mix with AU. Slowly revitalizing parts of downtown BHam

Montgomery No one voluntarily lives in Montgomery that doesn't have old money ties, government ties or Maxwell AFB ties. People who still live there typically just haven't found someone dumb enough to buy their house

Mobile Everyone sends their kids to Catholic schools, probably to train to catch Leprechauns

I always felt Montgomery was more of an AU town.

Starting to be more balanced as people partisan to AU are moving to Auburn and commuting the 50-60min.

While the opportunity to move back to "Auburn" has the additional appeal to AU grads/partisans, even Alabama grads are doing it. Getting a strong Alabama contingent in Auburn recently, feels like all of them work in Montgomery though

All the "Auburn hotbeds" are closer to 50-50, maybe slight edge Auburn. Just feels like an AU town whenever you don't see overwhelming Alabama support

Kind of like Birmingham. Used to be overwhelmingly Bama...which is why AU didn't want to play there anymore.....but I think Birmingham has balanced out considerably since those days.....

Auburn has been improving business programs and medical type (pre-med/nursing) programs. Given the type of jobs in Birmingham, it isn't surprising to see a larger influx

Also, it wasn't like pre Saban there was a consistent Alabama draw. The fantacism waned for a couple decades after Bear

I've been in Birmingham since 2000 and it's been about 50/50 Bama/Auburn since then from my perspective.

The odd thing is that in my circle of friends, I'd say 90% are Auburn fans. All of my friends from my Bama days live elsewhere.

Yeah during Bryant's heyday it was a Bama town....after Bryant passed, AU kind of flipped the script somewhat.......Bama is more popular these days because Saban.....But Birmingham is pretty much like any other major metro area in the country.... It's a diverse city.

Pretty much like every other state in the south: a shithole.
