For the third time, I have no idea where you're getting at proclaiming me as an Oxford local. I live in Memphis and have more money at 24 than you've probably accumulated throughout the entirety of your career. Get fricked

Entry level federal agents make anywhere from 35-55k a year. Should I be intimidated by that figure? I'll drop 5 on some scrub baseball team (give or take, a tenth of your chump change salary) just to make my Wednesday a tad bit more interesting

Why? For a decade now (ever since the Brady Bill sunsetted) Americans have made it clear we do not give a shite about Mexico or the safety of its people unless the violence spills onto our borders.

We kinda suck like that. Even Saudi Arabia gets more involved with its version of Mexico.

why should it be our concern until it spills over our border?

Samesies.

Team Oxford. He seems like a bit of an insufferable douche, but rebelgator is THE insufferable douche.

I find it strange that Ole Miss fans always respond with shite talk about wealth and status.

I wish I was so wealthy and cultured :(

This thread may be the first time I've ever seen someone brag about living in Memphis.

Dude must be REALLY rich to have made it to Memphis.

There was a thread recently bragging about chefs in Memphis and rebelgator's view of the beautiful Mississippi River from his modern condo. I was stoned while reading it, so I laughed a lot.

I've always wanted to live in Memphis, but it's just so exclusive. That's why everyone calls it the Nantucket of the south. You know, being next to such and awesome body of water and all.

Edit: in the true spirit of the OP, this thread has devolved and proved that nobody gives a frick about Mexico.

He insinuated I was a trashy Oxford local. I said I lived in Memphis and was not a trashy Oxford local. I guess you could call that bragging

Wow. Kind of strange this isn't bigger news. Government might as well just come out and say cartel members will be shot on sight.

I watch the news here almost every day -- I give classes in a cafeteria and I know enough Spanish to get everything -- but I literally heard about this from English Wikipedia. After that, I saw it on Fox News and then some alternative outlets here.

It's bizarre that 40 people can die and none of my students had heard it.

There's almost no way to deny this was a hit by the Mexican government in retaliation for an ambush the cartel pulled a few weeks back that killed 15 officers.

Yeah, this seems that way but the popular opinion here is: If they're affiliated with the cartels, frick 'em.

There are a few cartels that people sort of support, but this group was not one of them.

quote:

42 of 43 people killed were cartel members, which is less people than there were (cartel) weapons present, several of the bodies show signs of being beaten before death, and a few were killed execution style. All this on the heals of an AP investigation that revealed the last time this thing happened several of the dead were killed while in custody.

Yeah, 36 rifles and 42 bodies. Hard to explain.

I will never not be fascinated/horrified by the bloodshed and violence in Mexico.

I wish someone would do a really great television series on it. I was hoping The Border would be that show, and it was at times, but not quite enough. Looking forward to the movie Sicario.

It's a really bizarre dichotomy, isn't it? On one side: A single kid can get murdered by a police officer and it makes world news.

On the other?

42 people can die by the hands of police and there are no protests.

No worldwide attention.

No one gives a frick.

Obviously this is pretty complicated shite and I can't blame the cops for being out for blood, but some of the quotes are leading me to believe not all of the people killed were cartel members. The fact that ~1/4 of the people there couldn't have even had a gun if they wanted one, and sleeping bags being found on the patio, leads me to believe some there were just working on the ranch. Even if the cartel was paying them, getting executed for taking the wrong field job is pretty fricked up.
