If snakes are found away from civilization in their natural habitat, I agree with that statement every time.
But what most people don't understand is that snake venom is in short supply around the country, and the world. It's used for producing anti-venom, and each vile has to be specific to the species involved in the envenomation. Which means there needs to be a supply ready, on-hand of every venomous species for snakebite patients. It's extremely expensive and hard to get and has a shelf life.
Snake venom is also being increasingly used in cancer fighting research, and to treat heart attack and stroke victims.
