My personal thoughts are:

More of the same with Mauk. Around 50% completion percentage. His balls downfield seem more promising than his shorter passes. He never really seems impressive and never blows anyone out but he wins.

Lock is the real deal. No, we're not jumping to him as a starter, but I do think we're gonna have a REAL BIG controversy next year. I would like to see him get more than 1 series a game at this point.

RB's...Hansbrough has to be the man. Witter is useless. Hunt is a role player. Steward who knows. Basically, running game sucks after Hansbrough. Here's how much it sucks. Witter was our leading rusher with 33 yards. Our second leading rusher....Hansbrough with 23 who didn't play the whole game.

WR's showed some promise but still way too many drops. Brown had a TD. Moore had a TD. And both should have had 2. Culkin still isn't consistent catching it. But overall, I thought they showed a lot of promise with a lot of guys getting touches and targets.

OLine was atrocious. I don't know the answer. Hell, I'll go back to moving McGovern off of guard. Abeln wasn't good. I refuse to believe that Chappell or whoever isn't better.

Beckner was extremely solid. I watched parts of the game over and he was involved in a lot more plays than I originally realized.

Harris has to learn to defend the run. As much as I love the kid and the story, he has to become a complete player.

Howard...wouldn't have known he was a true freshman. He's gonna be another good one to watch for years.

Penton...love him at corner. PR...not so much.

Overall, lots of young guys got their feet wet and that will pay off in the long run. My biggest worry are the veterans...on the OLine.

I'm disregarding everything. This is the Pinkel formula, and likely why we keep the crap games at the beginning of the schedule.

First game is always a piece of shite. We'll see how next week goes.

I didn't think it was all a piece of shite. I thought there was a lot more good than bad to come out of it. My bad if it came out differently.

That wasn't really in response to your points. For the last few years the first game of the season has been a poor indicator of the talent and execution of the team. That's all I'm saying.

I'm not diving too deep in to everything until next week.

Nothing much changed from my impression in the 2nd quarter.

Very happy with the overall defense, and with Lock.

Neutral to meh on offensive skill players.

Unhappy with Mauk and the return game.

Very unhappy with OL.

Well, I guess this is why they schedule SEMO for the 1st game. They have some work to do but nothing that can't be fixed.

The defense looked good. I liked seeing the d - linemen in the backfield making tackles for loss.

On offense, Maty had two TD passes dropped. The line broke down on protection but he made some long passes and short ones. Solid game on his part except for that comical 2nd interception he threw. Drew Locke is going to be special as we all knew.

Don't know what to make of the team yet. When the 2013 team had a tough time beating Arkansas State I thought it was going to be a long season. That team did not show much until the fourth game. Maybe this one will be like that.

The second interception was overturned. Also the WR Blair kind of gave up on his route.

Going into this game, I didn't figure on seeing many depth position players. I was surprised to see quite a few depth players on both sides of the ball. To me, that tells me their depth players have talent and that's a really good sign of things to come.

Offense.
I still think Mauk looked better than last year. His numbers may not represent that, but watching him, he really refrained from getting happy feet too much. His arm looked good. But I was glad to see him not run as much. I think it's something he can improve on. Lock. Wow what else can you say but legit. He looks like he's been here for three years already. Balls on target, calm and cool in the pocket, he looked awesome.

Glad to see they are using their TE more in the pass game and they are catching the ball.

O line play was disappointing. That's really the only way I can say it. Not good. Looked better in the 4th quarter. But as a whole, just not there.

RB's. I think Witter will improve along with the O line play. I think he is a good back. The defense was really crashing the line on runs today. Not easy to run for yards when the defense is keying on the run game like that. I think Hunt is just a fill in. Not bad but not good. Morgan though hasn't played for some time. There is rust to knock off. I think Steward will be a viable back, but they have to give him reps. I think he's playing a little cautious right now to. I think he'll be there sometime this year.

Receivers really impressed me today, probably because I've heard nothing but bad things and doom and gloom all summer. They will not catch every ball, and this is a young group. I liked seeing the ball spread around also. But overall, I think they had a decent day considering.

Defense.

What can you say? This defense is lights out. That D line is going to be in the heads of every team they play this year. They really turned it up in the second half. They absolutely shredded SEMO's offensive line. They beat their QB senseless. He had no fight left in him in the later part of the second half. They all looked impressive. Depth doesn't seem to be an issue right now either. Really don't have an opinion on the secondary because the D line was on top of the offense most the time. Brothers impressed me also. He seemed to be everywhere. They were playing SEC style defense and it showed. SEMO's offense looked frazzled at the end.

In the end, they should have scored more points but it is what it is. I'll reserve my enthusiasm until we get into conference play.

OL and return game need to show more. Hansbrough injury hopefully doesn't linger all year. Penalties being down is a good sign after last year. Can't wait until next weekend.

Just looking ahead to next week a little watching the Kentucky game, they looked really good early when ULL was playing contain on the D side of the ball but just fell off once ULL started going for it and put pressure on their offense.

The one thing I think we can all agree on is that our D is going to get after it every week. Seems as long as Mauk is at QB 1 and our running game is in question our D is going to carry the load a lot like last year. And thats ok in my opinion. I like the match up next week.

Just need the offense to be at a level to put enough points up to win and be efficient enough to make sure the D has the breathers they need.

I suspect this year will mirror last year a lot in how the games will play out.

Ol was hot garbage. That said play calling was a joke. There was a distinct pattern .

I'm thinking (or hoping) they are holding back a lot of looks and better plays for the offensive line in these first couple games out of fear of showing too much for future opponents. The running plays looked similar when I watched again. And witter is useless.

I'm sorry and I could be wrong. But if you cant block for basic run plays how can we expect you to pull, trap and zone block?

There is no question that the offense was restricted. Its what Pinkel has always done.

My only problem with the offense is that they didnt physically dominate a DL that they should have regardless of everything else. That running game is going to be an issues I think down the road. I hope I am wrong.

Its much more fun forcing talking heads to talk about the program as the season goes along.

I have learned to not give a shite.
