Ok let's remove the adequacy of the the 2015 class and just focus on the player development of the 2015 class. BO has been the DC and in charge of developing that side of the ball for almost 3 years.

Who has he developed into a playmaker?

This is where I see the biggest difference in recruiting between Barry Odom and Gary Pinkel. Pinkel would pick guys with the athletic ability who needed to be taught the fundamentals and would come out as a better football player.

Barry Odom's recruits looked mismatched physically, mentally, and aren't making strides in development.

You can't make our LB's faster, that's not really a skill you can develop, if you're a 4.9 40 guy, you aren't going to suddenly become a 4.6/4.7 guy.

The current recruits on this team lack size, speed, and strength from a talent perspective.

The guys with it can't tackle.

That's the difference between a 30 something recruiting class and one that barely cracks 50.

Hall has developed.

Miller and Bledsoe are the most athletic LBs on the team, they are also true freshmen. (Miller is also injured)

On good GP teams not many first or second year players got snaps.

We certainly don't lack size.

There is no discernible difference between a recruiting class in the 30s or 50s. Once you get past the first 15 or so it's just a massive crapshoot and it becomes completely about identification and development.

With that point, you really can't say his recruits haven't developed because there hasn't been sufficient time to determine that.

This is not a "BO deserves more time" plea.

The defense is brutal and a lot of that is on him. If that doesn't change really fricking soon then he doesn't deserve the chance to develop his guys. That will be on the next coach, but development will be the key. As always.

Our defense is not particularly talented, but it's also not worst P5 team in the country bad which is where we are. Need better players first and foremost, but they'll also have to be coached better.

We don't have the worst defensive talent in the country. No P5 defense should play this bad. Our secondary plays scared and sometimes I see a ball carrier motoring toward one of our secondary players and he jumps out of the way or goes down to the ground and hopes he trips over him. They give to much ground to the receiver and they need to take them out of that extra soft zone.

The d-line should stop leaving that big gap where teams just run right through that opening. Even bad defensive teams don't play as bad as what we see on Saturday.

In other words, BO changed a defensive scheme that didn't need fixing just to put his stamp on it and he could get the credit.
