This sounds like we chose Beiser over Vitello?

That is exactly what happened.

Do we know that Bieser can't recruit at an SEC level? It won't bring an assistant that can?

One thing that I like about him and think will translate to Mizzou in the SEC is that while at SEMO they ranked 9 of 11 in budget/facilities yet it didn't prevent him from winning. Mizzou is similar in the SEC.

If he's bringing his whole staff from SEMO, which is the word that's out there right now, he's not bringing in assistants that can recruit at an SEC level.

His hitting coach is two years out of school, a D3 school. And his pitching coach has only ever coached at SEMO.

Reedus - One is creating a buzz. Imagine...

Reedus nailed this one.

But why did ADMR end on "safe pick" Bieser and also Odom? I'm going to give Mack a "sort of" pass. They may be great hires over time. No one truly knows now and that includes Bieser and Mack, but opinions matter.

Here is what ADMR is dealing with and it ALWAYS STARTS AT THE TOP (and I'm pointing all fingers at a terrible Governor and weak BOC):
1. Absent or no school leadership...huge issue.
2. No school president.
3. No permanent chancellor.
4. Damage control and the "lingering smell" from bs1950.
5. Budget constraints which I don't fully understand.
6. And for baseball only...facility issues, spring weather and scholly limitations.

My guess (and that is all it is), Mack swings for the fence but has to settle for the safe hits. He goes for the "big names" first but is turned down. Reasons...items 1 thru 6.

I've seen nothing that says he's bringing his entire SEMO staff. He said in the PC that he had a lot of people that wanted on the staff and he was reviewing them.

He's a winner. Has been his whole career.

And we are talking renovations to the existing stadium instead of a new stadium in that same press conference. All of it still screams we'll try to win a few more games but we're not interested in putting together a legitimate program. I get it. It's a non-revenue sport. But there was an opportunity to show true commitment to the program and we're going the band aid route instead. I get why some would be disappointed in the missed opportunity while still thinking it wasn't a bad hire.

That's the word around the coaches on the recruiting circuit right now. Sometimes not everything makes the papers.

We were never building a new stadium anyway.

They just spent a few million a couple of years ago on the thing.

Bieser got a legitimate contract and the asst pool is also rising. Another reason that would lead me to believe he's simply not bringing over his SEMO staff.

I'm not sure if this will make you guys happy, sad or mad but I thought it was interesting. I really figured Vitello would a lock for the job. I'm curious what happened in that meeting.

Rhoades thought Bieser would be the better hire. Pretty simple.

We'll see if he was right.

I'm gonna guess that Vitello wanted a real commitment to the program. I'm gonna guess MR wouldn't/couldn't guarantee it would happen. Vitello will be better off. He will eventually get a HC and frankly will probably eventually be coaching at a better program than Mizzou's. At least at a school that will actually devote more than some carpet to the program.

Any guesses where this puts Mizzou on the list when it comes to HC salaries?

He was never offered the job. I don't think he spent the interview making demands.

You're right though. If we want to win we need to be more committed to it.

300k would be last in the SEC assuming Bama is paying Geoff more. Mitch Gaspard was getting 300k when he was fired but their AD said that Geoff's salary was in the middle of the SEC so he's got to be making more. They haven't released his actual salary yet though, as far as I know, so I can't make that statement accurately.

I think it is more on par with what you see nationally outside of the SEC. Arizona State, for example, hired their head coach away from Indiana for 375k two years ago and he is one of the better paid in the PAC 12. Pat Casey has won 2 national championships at Oregon State and he just got bumped to a 308k salary.
