Good luck to him, but I don't think Rhoades got this one right.

I don't know much about college baseball, but his wasn't a name id heard mentioned much, mainly TV from Arkansas and the OSU pitching coach. Is this a good hire? Or is this Rhodes swinging and missing and having to take a fall back guy? Rhodes hires have been interesting, takes a long time to hire a local guy who would've taken the job immediately if offered. Makes me nervous for when he has to hire another basketball coach.

Who did you want? Vitello was making almost as much as an assistant, would have cost a major investment in baseball to him, Walton, or Whitting. Something I'm not sure fans care enough about, to warrant.

With Vitello comes a slew of baseball alums back to the program, including one guy he vacations with every year that just happened to sign a multi million dollar contract recently.

There was no name that would resonate with the non college baseball fans around Columbia, but Tony being able to get the MLB guys back on campus surely would.

SEMO won 2 of 3 against Mizzou this year. I'm not a huge baseball fan, so will give him a shot.

Vitello was the guy I wanted, but Beiser has done a phenomenal job at SEMO.

This is a great hire

Steve Bieser would be solid. I don't see it happening but since taking over SEMO he has won 3 straight regular season OVC titles and they made their first appearance in 14 years in the tournament this year.

Posted that right after TJ left. This is a great hire

Arksulli - Merry Christmas.

That's it for the next 30 years.

Not gonna say it was a bad choice, but not the best choice IMO. More of a safe pick than anything.

Bieser will probably give us more of what TJ has given us. Maybe slightly better. He's proven he knows how to win. What he won't do is create buzz around the program. Which is exactly what the program needs.

IMO Vitello is a lights out, proven better recruiter than Bieser. His down side is obviously lack of HC experience, but I suspect he would have won at about the same clip as Bieser will. In fact, probably better because he would have brought in better recruits.

Vitello offers 2 things Bieser will NEVER be able to offer.

One is creating a buzz. Imagine having a guy like Max Scherzer around the program from time to time. Even if nothing more than doing a promo for his friend's program. I don't buy the rumors that Scherzer was going to make a donation for a new stadium if Vitello was the coach but what I don't doubt for a second is that Scherzer opens up doors to baseball people (not players) with big bucks that he could give an in to for those donations.

Second, Mizzou has had 3 baseball coaches since 1937. Vitello would have brought that same stability and coached for the next 20+ years. Bieser may have 10-15 in him.

I would bet the house now that Vitello ends up getting a HC job and ends up with a better career. I wouldn't be surprised if he eventually ends up at an SEC school and beating Bieser regularly.

That's good for Bieser.

Good for Vitello.

Not sure about Mizzou yet. Time will tell.

If Vitello was an A option, Bieser is a B hire. When the contract comes out, we will know if we went the cheap, safe route or got Bieser because he was the best out there. You don't get option A's for less than $300-400k. We will see.

No he didn't IMO. He didn't do "bad" but he also didn't get it right.

Then you make the major investment. BTW - Major investment at this level isn't in terms of millions of dollars but the difference between $250,000 (lord help us if they paid Bieser less) and $400,000 or possibly even less that it would have taken to get Vitello.

And we were never going to get Whitting and I think Walton is even older than Bieser.

That's the problem. The Bieser hire only insures that this attitude continues. Now imagine having big time major league players more involved.

Rhoades doing Rhoades things.

I'm ready for him to stop making me reevaluate my opinion of Alden.

Vitello was going to bring in a current mlb bench coach and former minor league manager to be his top assistant. Beiser is bringing his staff from semo, including the hitting coach that was playing at Drury two years ago.

mizzou is going to get eaten alive on the recruiting trail.

Might as well close the program. Mizzou made an ok hire. Guy hasn't even been introduced and we know exactly what he is gonna be. I love over reaction time at Mizzou. Gotta make that sexy hire like Larry Smith or Quinn Snyder. I'm all for letting him do his job and run the program how he sees fit.

That's Rhoades doing Rhoades things. Is that what we wanted? Is that how he interviewed? "I'm an ok AD and I'll do ok things."

There's no over reaction here. Bieser is a solid coach. He simply won't recruit like Vitello and won't create a buzz like Virello, which is needed badly. Bieser will win but doesn't bring the extra oomph

This sounds like we chose Beiser over Vitello?
