Yeah.
I don't doubt he knows some guys, he may even be a guy. I just think his bubble is a little small and well downstream of the decision makers.

After the Herman debacle at USCjr this could all just be a crazy smoke screen so that the real candidate isn't mentioned in the media.

Rhoades got Ohio State's coordinator to Houston, and got an inexperienced Toledo coach to Mizzou? I think not.
Good point, didn't think of it that way. So who is the true target? Miles, Willingham, Fedora?

I'd take Fedora or Herman.

I agree fedora would be a great hire

IDK. I've seen the guy nail commitment after commitment before anyone else ever reported it.

He might be a good coach, but what's the biggest game he's ever coached? The fricking GoDaddy bowl?
Every game he ever coaches here will be bigger than the biggest game he has ever coached.
He does not have the experience to be the HC in the SEC.
He throttled Arky pretty well in their house.
Listen, I'm not necessarily disagreeing. I'm saying he will go through the same motions Pinkel went through when jumping to the SEC. He may take a little longer depending on his recruiting abilties. But with time, I think he could be a good coach in the SEC once he figured things out, much like Pinkel had to. It was more than he thought also.

Campbell is a Midwest guy, not a Southern guy, his recruiting expertise is in the Ohio Valley area.
He'll be perfect for Iowa St.

Hey that's really a better fit not so much for the recruiting aspect. Like Pinkel found out, the SEC is an endless grind it out season. I think eventually, he could turn it around. Again he's not my pick, that'd be Les Miles.

Kind of a different ballgame when you're at this level of decision. He could have someone in the program, I doubt he's got someone high enough in the AD to know these things.

I don't disagree with you. But, Pinkel had almost endless patience from the administration, AD and fans because of how bad we were. It was a complete rebuild. I don't see this as a complete rebuild now, unlike basketball. So, how much time do you think the new coach will get to prove themselves?
It's similar to what KA is dealing with that isn't his fault. The two highest-profile programs are in a mess right now. The administration is facing a PR nightmare with these protesters. Boosters are pissed and donations (we hear) are slowing dramatically due to all of the above. If you're the AD, you need a turnaround in both programs ASAP. So how long do you give a coach to make an impact?

Yeah, I think his connections were/are on the staff.

Depends on who you hire. I think it has to be huge and they'll get some time.
Regardless of when Pinkel left we were facing a rebuild. The program is/was built on doing things differently and unless someone in house was promoted there was a rebuild regardless.
I love Pinkel for what he's done for Mizzou, but everything he's done is for naught if we don't make a huge hire with the cache he's developed for the team. His process is unsustainable with new staff.

Yes, there is a rebuild. But nothing like Pinkel faced. When he signed his contract with Mizzou, he couldn't field a team of scholarship players. I had friends in the AD at that time, it was beyond horrible. That was a ground-up rebuild.
This one is just a renovation, not a tear-down and rebuild. It shouldn't be as bad. And we should have the program to get a decent coach. You are absolutely right - this hire is key.
