Nothing against Campbell, who I'm sure is a fine young coach. But the SEC is the league to cut your teeth in. He has no P5 experience at all, right? How in the world would he even begin to compete for recruits, let alone on the field? At least Odom understands the conference.

No. Disappointing and uninspiring. After the KA hiring debacle, we need something better here.

It's such a poor hire that it's got to be fake. Zero P5 experience. Like I said, the only time he's been in a P5 locker room is on the visitors side.

This is someone starting a rumor and letting it fly.

He's too young. He's only had moderate success in the MAC. No real recruiting ties to the SE or MO. Looking at the stats, I wouldn't call him a guru at either side of the ball. Won't do anything to excite the fanbase.

Just a very "blah" hire that does nothing to get anyone excited. Seems like a guy who could really flop badly.

Good point Mizzeaux.

Let's add: Bama got a guy from LSU with a natty and then scores some natties. LSU got a guy from Okie State and then won a natty.

Success breeds success. A proven system breeds success.

OK, but doesn't that also describe Odom. Without him playing for Mizzou, his only option would be a return to Memphis. Yet fans somehow are optimistic about his hire.

At least Campbell has sat in the big chair and seems to have a process. Don't get me wrong, I want Les Miles for 3 -4 years just to get the recruits and high profile for the program.

I always say USC and Arkansas because they're similar programs to Mizzou (USC more than Ark, but close enough.) LSU and Bama are going to get the cream of the crop anyways.

If USC gets a Spurrier and Arkansas gets a Bielema Mizzou getting a Campbell speaks volumes.

No it doesn't descirbe Odom because I would consider him a defensive guru and he does have ties to MO and in the SE.

I could see passing on a true son budding star, but not for Matt fricking Campbell.

I hate this hire actually. It fricking sucks.

If we go out and hire Matt Campbell it's clear to me that the Mizzou higher ups don't give a shite about our football program. It's embarrassing If South Carolina and Arkansas go out and get coaches who have won a Natty/BCS bowl and we go out and hire some inexperienced Mac coach.

Well, well. mubobby has spoken.

Very Mizzou type of hire, if true. Rhoades better know what he's doing.

I won't lie. This could change things for me. I was hoping for better. This hire doesn't make me want to support the program. Just the opposite. If the big donors are against the hire, Rhodes is in trouble, and we are headed for the cellar.

I think it boils down to how fast you want to start winning again. I personally feel Campbell could be a damn good HC in the SEC, but it would be like starting over. It sounds like the boosters are not willing to wait. Sounds like they won't mind getting a little dirty to win also.

He might be a good coach, but what's the biggest game he's ever coached? The fricking GoDaddy bowl?

Every game he ever coaches here will be bigger than the biggest game he has ever coached.

He does not have the experience to be the HC in the SEC.

Completely agree.

This needs to be the worlds greatest smoke screen.

It won't be though.

I think it is all smoke. Odom to Memphis looks real likely though. TJ Moe and Kilgore are talking on Twitter about it.

I love that Kilgore guy.

Yeah. I'm trying not to overreact. I've honestly become pretty apathetic toward Mizzou and the football and basketball programs lately. I haven't tuned in and watched an entire basketball game in over a year. And I only watched a few minutes of yesterday's game. Really didn't miss it, or feel a loss at not seeing it. Apathetic.

I was hoping for a good hire here to spark my interest again. This isn't doing it; and I'm not a big-dollar donor. I can't imagine how pissed I'd be if I was heavily invested financially and they did something like this.

They could be. Doesn't mean they are right.

I don't like this hire, but I'll support it. If he doesn't get any support it will make his job damn near impossible.

mubobby is more wrong than he is right. If he was a football coach he'd be Willie Taggart. He gets mentioned, but nobody knows why.

Everyone feels the way you do, semo. That's the exact reason he can't be the guy.

Rhoades got Ohio State's coordinator to Houston, and got an inexperienced Toledo coach to Mizzou? I think not.
