Sterk won't put up with KA type coaches... He's shown us that already.

There are no excuses this year. Zero

BO needs more than two years if what he is doing is going to work.

I was more referring to the fans. Support already blows. If we are whiffing on instate recruits AND start the season slow then Sterk is going to have a real hard time justifying his job everytime he looks in the stands on Saturdays.

Its a tough situation, but what BO already has in the room is going to determine his long range fate imo. There is no reason not to expect the offense to perform...so hes a defensive coach. He simply has to get that side of the ball rolling.

His job likely depends on it.

Don't get my point twisted. It is just that anything above top 3 has virtually no probative value. Top 11,12, or 22 (a previous post) may as well be the grand total of all Div1 schools.

Thompson - that would be a cool story if he makes his way back to MU.

Saying BO needs 2 more years is just an excuse. Mark Stoops had a 22 ranked class at bottom feeder kentucky in his first full recruiting year in 2014. If BO can't get top 40 recruiting class or 6 wins, we should look elsewhere.

Maybe, but I doubt if Pinkel had good classes in his first few years.

Too early for any judgements, let's wait to see a couple more years of results on the field and in the recruiting.

I know we usually see things differently PB but I am in lockstep with you when you say:

I will add that failing in recruiting forewarns of future on field shortcomings. As such BO would need to pull a coaching rabbit out of his hat with winning a minimum of 7 games to show me his coaching ability deserves additional time/opportunity. A .500 record comes short of indicating he will ever "turn the corner" with the program.

Wow, the similarities to all that encompassed the KA experience are being relived to include the denial of same.

BO = SPAM = KA 2.0

You can view it as an excuse or whatever but it's factual. Obviously, he's not going to blow the doors off in recruiting and the identification/development arc does not happen overnight.

Like I said though, the fanbase may very well not allow Sterk to give him that time even if he wanted to. If we don't win some games and there is less than 50k fans in the stands every week it's going to be a very tough sell to keep him.

I didn't think there was any chance at all he'd be fired after two years regardless of results, but I do think it could happen now.

BO has a tough hill to climb here. We'll see if he can do it.

I respectfully disagree on Odom not getting a third year unless it's 2 or 3 wins this year.

And I hate the KA comparison. One's young and has football intelligence and the other was old and out of touch.

Stoops had a great plan to sell border state recruits in Ohio on the SEC. Not sure if a similar strategy would have worked in Iowa and Southern Illinois, but I like Odom's re-entry into Texas.

I also love the offense Odom chose to go with. If it continues to exponentially improve in 2017 as Heupel believes, I can't imagine Mizzou not being an incredibly hot brand heading into next year's recruiting season.

All Odom needs to do is get his side of the ball up to snuff. If he can't he'll be fired soon enough.

I think, football wise in the long term he will/would do well. He's a bright young coach, and until last year, had succeeded at everything he did.

The problem is though, the football program has really lost the fanbase. Most of that is not even his doing, but it is what it is. If nobody is coming to games that really leaves Sterk with little choice.

Odom has to make some noise this year. Do that and he'll be fine.

Don't blame just the fans. The team played questionable. Worse than questionable on defense. BO himself struggled with on field coaching. The DC got his responsibilities stripped from him for the piss poor job they did. Yes. Fan attendance is one thing but hardly the only thing holding BO back.

I did like that Odom was at least willing to go back to the old defense that had worked in the past.

It took Pinkel 3 years to have a winning record. His recruiting classes were probably ranked lower than Odom's.

I'm not. I'm saying fan support may get him fired earlier than expected, and most of that has nothing to do with him.

He needs to go win games. He probably has an unreasonably short leash but it is what it is.
