I presume watching special teams march on the field in a tight game would be a similar feeling to seeing Heath Hutchins buy your old lady a drink.

Well when they actually get the punts off it works out pretty well. They seem to get good hang time and we don't give up long punt returns for the most part. Our kicking is shite, and our returners are awful.

What happened to our 2012 punt team? That rugby style shite was killer.

I'll tell you what happened. For some reason, right during the middle of the season, Mullen decided to make a change at punter. More specifically, he decided to make a change at punter in a situation where we were backed up in our own end zone. Punt gets blocked for a safety. From there on out we used Devon Bell for the rest of the season. He may have punted a few times before that but after that he was used exclusively. For the life of me I cannot figure out why the best punter and punt team in the nation last year were changed up due to "performance in practice".

I think we need a special teams thread to talk about each more specifically.

@JFowlerCBS: Miss. State is considering not hiring an OC to replace Les Koenning. Mullen calls the plays. Bulldogs might hire special teams coach instead

I don't understand why we don't send Stallach or whatever the frick back to the office and get a special teams/TE coach. Then we could hire a recruiter/booth man for Mullen to talk to during the game.

I suspect our current ST practice going something like casual golfers at a driving range. Just hitting an assload of balls to see how far they can, to hell with accuracy.

At one spring open practice, before the new complex was built they kinda just hung and kicked a few amongst themselves until practice was over.. The next day some actual full team kickoff drills were covered.
