Ole Miss's 247site is reporting that Matt Luke has been offered a position. SC's 247site has not confirmed that yet. It could be a situation where we reached out to him, but haven't officially offered yet, or we could have. Either way, he's a national ELITE OL Recruiter, probably in the Top5 for recruiting at his position. It does need to be considered though that he had A LOT of help from bagmen.

He's already making $565K, so IF this is true, we're opening the checkbook substantially for him.

Looking at their OL Stat rankings from football outsiders, they do better than average, but they' aren't Top25.

Not the most stellar hire, but he could be a good fit for Roper's offense.

Whoever it is must teach the OL how to vary the snap count, not set their legs differently for a run or pass play, and how to find someone to block if they aren't already doing so.

I'm pretty sure this is the guy Muschamp wants.

My Ole Miss family (and I have a lot of them in the family) were telling me we had reached out to Luke last Wednesday.

Muschamp likes him because he is a former center (and centers are supposed to be the smart ones) and a former team captain (which Muschamp values) plus he has worked with Roper and Roper likes him a lot.

Luke also has strong recruiting ties to not only this region of the country but Texas as well.

He is being vetted right now to make sure he is not going to be tied to any of this mess at Ole Miss at the moment and we're going to make a play for him in the $600k range if everything works out. Can't stress this enough - because there are some concerns.

I don't know about this one. He's a former player for Ole Miss. He is interviewing for their vacant OC position as well. I think his agent leaked this info to get leverage in the negotiation with Ole Miss. I do not find it likely that he'll end up here at this point in time.

Ole Miss is having some well publicized issues.

Roper has ties to Luke ... they supposedly have a good relationship.

He's the guy we want ... but admittedly he is a legacy Ole Miss guy. Whether or not we'll get him is another story. If there are any questions about whether or not he'll be implicated, by the NCAA, in any of the violations coming down for Ole Miss - then that will be a deal breaker for us and it may force him to ride it out in Oxford.

If the violations are as egregious as some are saying, as some are worrying about over there, then there will be a house cleaning. If not, then he's probably going to stay but who knows.

The other part of the equation is his wife. She has a lot of family and friends in Oxford and I'm hearing she does not want to leave there - so who knows. His brother is also on the staff at Ole Miss, I forget under what capacity but I was told that would not play into the decision. I have a family member who actually played with his brother Tom in the late 80s.

Did he and Freeze successfully have their deposition sealed in the civil suit? I know they requested that, so the NCAA couldn't see their testimony.

I do not know, don't even have a clue ... I can ask and try to find out but I dunno.

The more I hear about the guy the more he seems almost too good to be true.

Hot wife too - but she is all Ole Miss all the time. I really think she is more of a hurdle for us than anything else.

Coaches know they do not coach at their alma maters forever, not even of they are the HCs. And position coaches are always, always, told to move around and keep moving up, never get stagnant. He's going to have to explain that somehow to his wife and kids.

For the kids especially, better to make the move now before they get too deep into school ... I think they are still in early primary, 1st and 3rd grade maybe but I need to ask about that again.

Ole miss 247 board is now reporting that Luke is staying there. I don't think that was ever real. I think it was just his agent trying to get him some more negotiating power for the OC position. All of the information coming out of this was from the Ole Miss 247 board, and no other media ever confirmed it.

There was a poster on our 247 site that was fairly convincing in his argument that we could get Cristobal.

His basic premise is that Brent key the current center/guard coach at bama is their long term guy meaning that he is who is being groomed to take over OL. Therefore the resistance from them in us going after Cristobal may not be as stringent as we thought.

Again just one guys opinion. Our "insiders" over there haven't said jack.

Well dammit.

Luke will regret that, unfortunately for him ... although, with his resume, if it all comes crashing down in Oxford he'll land somewhere in a hurry provided he is not implicated.

Rooster are you hearing anything on this front. The complete lack of info from the usual sites tells me champ is playing this one close to the vest, which is fine but it could also be that he doesn't have a good feel on who he could get.

I feel like the guy we are targeting right now, or the lead guys that we are targeting right now are probably coaching in bowl games. Therefore we may not hear until after the bowl games.

The only thing I've been hearing were about Luke from my cousins in Oxford, Olive Branch and Memphis.

Not a peep coming out of anything over at the stadium. CIYE is right though, it may well be a bowl coach, although I'm not sure who it might be with regard to which bowl team's OLine coach we would covet.

Word on the street is John Latina (retired from duke) will coach the o-line in the bowl game. He is not considered a candidate for the job after the bowl.

That is now confirmed.

He has a legit resume', it's probably better to have him than a grad student doing it. The best part is he worked with Roper for 7 years (b/w 2 schools) and is familiar with the blocking assignments/responsibilities. Wouldn't it be something IF our OL had the best game of the year under another OL Coach?!?!
