He GONE!! Elliott just accepted the Ga State Job
We've thrown around a couple names in a few threads, but I made this one for consolidation/convenience. I copied what people wrote/suggested already.
CANDIDATES (no particular order or plausibility, just people we'd like or have named.)
Jeff Grimes - LSU - $535K - (maybe he'll see the writing on the wall and want to leave before Dusty Rhodes is fired.
John Peterson - Pitt. Might be highly sought after, but he's gotta be the number one target.
Allen Morgridge - Ga Southern - $145K - Has primarily worked at smaller schools, but has been successful everywhere for the most part. He's also familiar with North Carolina/Tennessee area.
Shawn Clark - App State - $125K - How funny would it be to replace one App State Shawn with another App State Shawn, but App State has a great O line, and his units don't give up sacks.
Chris Kapilovic - UNC - $436K -Great recruiter, developed NFL talent, overall good OL's.
Alex Atkins - Tulane - Formerly at Ga Southern.
Darren Hiller - USF - $250K- After looking at the stat rankings, we need to seriously consider him. He was also the OL Coach at Cinn when they were a Top10 offense and he worked with Hugh Freeze at Ark St.
John Hevesy - Miss St - $400K - With Mullen at UF and Miss St.
Will Friend- Colorado St- $535K - OC and OL Coach, formally a uga when they were good at offense.
Kyle Devan - Ball St - $160K- 5 year NFL career, played at OR St. Top10 Overall OL this year. Young guy, graduated in '07.
Ron Crook - WVU - formally at Stanford too, but he has had a great OL at WVU for 3 years.
J.B. Grimes - Cincinnati - $300K (but not anymore, Tubberville quit so he needs a job.) Coached at Va-Tech, aTm, Miss St, Ark St, Auburn and Cin the past 20 years. He's an older guy though.
Eric Wolford - 49'rs - $250K (projection) He has thrown his name in the ring according to 247Sports. He was a decent/ok recruiter but better evaluator of talent.

RESEARCH RANKINGS
This is one of the best stat sites I've found that ranks OL's.
https://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/ncaaol
You can see on the link how the schools rank on those 9 OL measurements. For simplicity sake, I exported the table into Excel and made an "OVERALL RANK" which was simply the 9 measurement rankings for the team; divided by the 9 measurements. Some of these measurements probably matter more than others though, but this was easy enough.
Here's what I found out:
10 Highest Overall Ranked OL (any conference and in order)
Toledo
Western Michigan
Miss St
Colorado St
Washington St
California
USF (uh oh)
taters
Ball St
OHio St
10 Highest Overall Ranked OL (P5 conference and in order)
Miss St
Washington St
California
taters
Ohio St
Texas a&m
WVU
TCU
Louisville
Baylor
- Alabama would be 11th
10 Highest Ranked Non-P5 Conf OL's.
Toledo
Western Michigan
Colorado St
South Florida
Ball St
MTSU
Northern Illinois
New Mexico
Western Kentucky
La Tech
- App St would be 11th
Top 10 within FL, NC, SC, GA
USF
taters
App St
ECU
FSU
FAU
UNC
Florida
Ga Tech
FIU

Run-blocking stats
Adjusted Line Yards: One of only two opponent-adjusted numbers on the page, this aligns with the ALY figure FO tracks for the NFL and is presented on a scale in which 100.0 is perfectly average, above 100 is good, below 100 is bad.
Standard Downs Line Yards per Carry: The raw, unadjusted per-carry line yardage for a team on standard downs (first down, second-and-7 or fewer, third-and-4 or fewer, fourth-and-4 or fewer).
Passing Downs Line Yards per Carry: The same unadjusted averages for rushing on passing downs.
Opportunity Rate: The percentage of carries (when five yards are available) that gain at least five yards, i.e. the percentage of carries in which the line does its job, so to speak.
Power Success Rate: This is the same as on the pro side -- percentage of runs on third or fourth down, two yards or less to go, that achieved a first down or touchdown. Stuff Rate: Same as STUFFED on the pro side -- percentage of carries by running backs that are stopped at or before the line of scrimmage.
Pass-blocking stats
Adjusted Sack Rate: An opponent-adjusted version of a team's sack rate -- sacks divided by (sacks plus passes), presented on a scale in which 100 is perfectly average, above 100 is good, below 100 is bad.
Standard Downs Sack Rate: Unadjusted sack rate for standard downs pass attempts.
Passing Downs Sack Rate: Unadjusted sack rate for passing downs pass attempts.

Damn if I knew this thread was here I wouldn't have posted my elaborate intro on the other thread.

A guy who is interesting may bring this thin full circle. Elliot is heading to Georgia Southern, a team that has only been in existence since 2014 (per sports reference, idk that is accurate tbh). During the 14 and 15 campaign, Georgia Southern had, ironically, had one of the best rushing attacks in CFB. In 2015 they went to a bowl and threw up 58 on Bowling Green. They, during that same year, had 5 guys rush for over 500 yards including 2 QBs. Ladies and gentlemen, for your entertainment pleasure, I submit my choice for Shawn Elliot's replacement. Former OL coach for Georgia Southern, current OL coach from Tulane, Alex Atkins

Too big of an erection at the thought of having a real OL?
Also Douglas from Charlotte has said he is 110% committed still. So that's good news.

I'm just so happy ... this has just turned into a great day.
We really needed this to happen.

Next step is find someone who is a coach not a cheerleader.

I would really really like to see us hire a proven, big time, big boy, OLine coach.
The position has become so important to our success in this conference.
I mean I would like to see us hire someone with both on the field experience and on the sideline experience. Someone who has actually fought in the trenches, been down there battling at a high level in the SEC or the B1G. A real warrior of a coach, not a cheerleader, but someone who is magnetic, who can recruit the big timers, someone who can teach and develop and get these guys to perform.
