Take a look at Sam Madden's Sr Highlight reel above. He plays RT and DT for his HS. This is a PERFECT example on why it's so hard to judge OL on highlight reels. He was a leviathan compared to the guys he was playing against. He's already at an SEC Tackle size right now, but obviously his strength and conditioning would need to be developed...as well as footwork.

Not even kidding, I would sign him up for dance classes at SC to help develop his movement and footwork. His play is the product of being the biggest dude on the field since he was young. He just bulldozes everybody. He's already benching 375 lbs, which is good for a D1 OT prospect, but I wonder what he power cleans.

I thought he had a decent punch, and I liked how he kept his arms in close for run blocking, that helps hide holding. He is really strong, and has tenacity, he was just throwing bodies for most of the clip. Also, he uses his weight to his advantage, once he gets leverage and the defender buckles, he just falls on top of him, taking him out of the play.

He needs to improve his stance in pass protection, he's going to run into some fast DE's. There were a couple examples where his assigned defender changed though based on the pass rush and he adapted well. So that lets me know he has some awareness.

I liked how he trained at DT too. It helps with conditioning and game knowledge. He very well could be our starting RT after Shell graduates this year.

Madden's Dad bumped our visit to the final visit on Jan 30th, before NSD. Madden will visit uga this weekend instead.

quote:

but his father said Tuesday night they are going to Georgia this weekend and USC January 30th

quote:

Dave Madden said they have talked with USC recruiting coordinator Steve Spurrier Jr. by phone a couple of times and USC recruiter GA Mangus is scheduled for a home visit Wednesday.

quote:

The Maddens did not expect to be back on the market in late January. The commitment to Wisconsin was solid and was only broken when the Badgers informed Sam Madden he couldn't enroll early.

"It was a rude shock last Tuesday that brought us to this point," Dave Madden said, "but it's been a blessing and has brought some opportunities he wasn't exposed to previously. The Gamecocks offered last year but they were filling up so fast we didn't have time to make a visit so we couldn't commit. The way things work out, now we get an opportunity and we're really, really excited about that."

quote:

Dave Madden said he will join his son on his official visits and the plan is for his son to sign on National Signing Day.

As far as I'm concerned, I don't mind the bump, as long as we get that last OV. Although, I don't think it really matters for the 23rd or 30th b/c the big difference is going to be depth chart and coaching. Elliott is established at SC, has put guys in the NFL, and will do so again this year. uga has a new guy that I think came from an FCS school or something, never heard of him.

Here's a list and some updates on the visitors for this weekend. Also, a lot of our Pro players are in town as well (Bruce, Melvin, DJ, Lattimore, etc....)

4* WR Tristan Payton de-committed from USC today and looks like we're targeting him.

quote:

Gamecocks wide receivers coach/recruiting coordinator/area recruiter Steve Spurrier Jr. plans to visit Payton on Monday and the two parties will go from there.

Payton is scheduled to officially visit UCF this weekend. He is the No. 30 wide receiver prospect in the 2015 cycle per 247Sports Composite rankings.

Glad Helms pulled the trigger. He cancelled is las visit to Ped St. We also beat out aTm and miss st for his services. I don't know if he'll get that hardship waiver though, I think he's a long shot to get it, but crazier things have happened.

Whitlow also shut down his recruiting and will not visit uf this coming weekend.

Key had a great visit. He will be visiting auburn though next weekend and they are notoriously good clo$er$. So we'll see what happens. I think he'll be a Gamecock still when it's all said and done, he has an announcement scheduled to be on Fox Sports before NSD.

Arnette said that SC is still #1 (which we should be since he's counted as a commit,) michigan is #2, but he is still going to visit Oh St this weekend. If he doesn't flip during that visit (or the day or 2 after) I like our chances of keeping him.

Another OV from this weekend that we're picking up a lot of traction CB's with is Trey Derouen, 3* OG from Lithonia, GA. He had a really good visit. He'll visit Kansas St mid week and uf next weekend.

Pellage will host the coaches from SC and uf this week and the thought is he'll remain firm to SC.

Most of our other current commits were at this OV this weekend as well. Reports are that everyone had a great time. We had cookie cakes with icing but the ncaa can GTFO, nothing will happen.

We will just have someone sign a paper that says they've been trained on proper recruiting/baking procedures and switch bakers....ncaa doesn't have the manpower to investigate fully all baking violations.

Our QB, Lorenzo Nunez, just had his highlight reel posted today.

https://www.hudl.com/athlete/345618/highlights/180197389

One of the first things I noticed, he can scramble left and throw with his right hand. Also, he moves laterally well in cuts and has great acceleration and top end speed for a QB. He made some poor decisions that turned into great plays (b/c they weren't picked off.) However, he also extended a lot of plays that should've ended up with a sack/TFL.
He has good arm strength for a guy known as a dual threat QB.

I think that he could do really well. His OL looked pretty bad, that might explain why his team didn't win more games.

OL prospect Trey Derouen committed to USC tonight! A projected OG, he helps solidify a position of need for USC in this class after several OL commits have dropped away....

3* OG Trey Derouen committed to SC tonight. It came down to SC, Lville, KSU, and Florida, but he cancelled his official visits to Kansas State and Florida the other day and he committed tonight. coach Petrino and coach Grantham visited with him yesterday.

This class may not end as highly rated as we had hoped ... but it may be one of the more fruitful classes in our history by the time all is said and done.
