Facility upgrades?

What, if any, facility upgrades have we had going on. I thought I remember an addition being made to the Mal Moore building?
And also, I was watching interviews from fan day I think, and Calvin Ridley said he had noticed some up grades to BDS. Anything worth noting? Or just the typical up keep?
Any other facility upgrades to speak of? Or potential ones? I know we need a new aquatics center. I'd love to see a new basketball arena. I also think we need a new indoor practice facility. I know the one we have is nice and all but it seems kinda dated, I really like Tennessee's indoor facility and would like to see us outdo that.

No but they upgraded the uni's and will be introducing white helmets for the Fresno game.

Badly. That may be the most outdated facility we have on campus. A new one is in the works and it may have already been started, but it needs to happen now. I've been to Auburn's, UGA's, UT's, and Vandy's, and the last one is the only one that approaches the inadequacy of ours. It's just not built for an SEC swim meet. Hell, the new public aquatic center in Hunstville puts Bama's to shame. As in most sports, we have world class coaches and world class talent in the pool. We need to stop making their job harder with facilities that aren't even up to par with ones in the state, much less the conference. Rant over.

I think the signage in the tunnel and some of the recruiting areas were updated at BDS.

Byrne is going to get shite done here.

Q: Have there been any thoughts or discussions about possibly building a new basketball arena to replace Coleman Coliseum, which is nearly 50 years old? How much is that on your radar already?

I am not saying that he won't do anything with Coleman but this isn't proof that he definitely will. We are a football school and I can accept that though it would be nice to pour more into the basketball program. It would be a huge gamble to dump multiple millions into an arena when you just don't know if the fans are going to fill the arena and buy merchandise. I am hopeful but I also am realistic.

I think what happens on the court over the next 3 years will go a long way in the decision of whether to build an arena. We may sell out Bryant Denny even when the product is mediocre but we have all seen Coleman with lots of empty seats even when we were tourney teams. We'll see.

New dining hall going up at the Football Facility. AD Byrne did say that Coleman was on the radar.
To me, it will be interesting to see if they gut Coleman and reconfigure the seating or would they tear it down completely and build from scratch. CAJ has a lot of excitement going with the program and these young horses he has could lead to BAMA basketball enjoying some of it's better days since those of Wimp Sanderson.

A new one will be smaller. Not quite as small as Auburn's, because we sell more seats. It will be a much better design for BBall. I believe Byrne will get this done in the next few years, but probably not immediately, since they spent millions to make the outside look nice just a few years ago.

We'll have a new arena in the next 5-10 years. With both Auburn and Ole Miss getting new ones, Florida renovating theirs, and the age of Coleman, it is guaranteed to happen.
I absolutely love Ole Miss's new arena. I hope we get something similar to it.

We've also seen Coleman sold out when they were mediocre teams. You build a new arena for the future of the program and the excitement it builds. We've averaged just a little over 12k in attendance the last decade. A 15k+ arena is just too big. One around 10-12k with better band and student seats is ideal.
Gonna take time though with any facility upgrades. I would like a new basketball arena for both m&w programs right now, but a new aquatic center would start attracting more talent and be a big boost to our program.

I feel like there was a poster on here that swam for Alabama in the 90s that's still connected to the program. He said that a new natatorium is in the works.

Is this even true? Coleman was packed for some of our good teams in the early 2000s, and we've only had one tourney appearance since then.

Coleman was always packed when I was a student.

yeah, he sent me some great CGI images that I wish I could share. The thing is, I thought from our talks that we would have broken ground already. I don't think that has happened. The proposed venue is beautiful and state of the art.

We dumped millions into a baseball stadium knowing that fans probably won't fill it and buy merchandise. I follow our baseball team, but I think we probably have a very low chance at getting a return on that investment.
The most recent numbers I could find (2015) for Alabama basketball show 12.78 million in revenue (4th in the SEC) and 5.62 million in profit (3rd in the SEC). LINK
If Ole Miss, Auburn, and Florida (all football schools that make less or equal to us on basketball) can do it, it's not really unrealistic to expect us to when we have one of if not the worst arena in the power 5.

That guy is a dick and may have slightly mislead y'all We got approved for like 15 or 20 million in renovations/upgrades about 6 months ago. Seating will absolutely be addressed, but honestly forgot entirely what all that entails. Also unsure on construction dates.

Go to uf's pool... in that weird pressurized bubble they call the O'Connell center. Seriously, you enter via revolving doors... on top of sharing a 40 year old arena with 5 other teams (hoops, gymnastics, and indoor track) Their pool is a tad older than ours, and certainly no nicer. It's like they have a different talent pool (lol) than what bama picks through. Having the sweet 96 olympic pool didn't exactly skyrocket georgia tech to any real level of success... having that dump hasn't hurt florida.
