We absolutely had our heads up our asses in anything football related before Sherrill arrived, save for Emory Bellard's wishbone.

CFB is a business. Mullen's #1 job is to put the best team out on the field that he can.

I hope Chason does well. The chances that he would be vying for the MSU starting job are probably near 0%, so being at Fresno is probably a good situation for him.
He went down early last year. I hope that he has an injury free year this season. He should put up some fairly good numbers in their offense.

What did he fail to do? Did he get arrested or anything?

Mullen screwed himself in the State of Texas.
We don't have many players from Texas and never have most of our recruits come from Mississippi, Alabama, LA, FLA, and GA

Not just football. Clarence Weatherspoon was a legend at MSU basketball camps and couldn't get a scholarship offer. We recruited Othello Harrington for 7+ years and couldn't get him away from a mediocre Georgetown program.

Basketball has always recruited the top HS talent in MS. The Final 4 team had Erick Dampier who was a 1st round pick and 15 year NBA vet, as well as other MS kids on the team.

Certainly more successful than FB.
I run into Dampier a good bit. His 4th grade daughter is quickly catching up to my height
( 6'1")

Georgetown was still a huge name then though. That was when Georgetown still had John Thompson as HC. He was being recruited there right after Dikembe Mutombo and Alonzo Mourning had just left for the NBA.

Here's what Fresno State coach Tim DeRuyter said about Virgil in this Fresno Bee story
Was he yelling?

Mississippi State didn't recruit Brett Favre.
Mississippi State told Jerry Rice he couldn't play in the SEC.
Mississippi State told Steve McNair he'd never play quarterback in college.
Mississippi State told Ndamukong Suh he couldn't play in the SEC (His sister was on the soccer team at MSU and his parents wanted him to come to MSU).
Let see:
-Southern was Favre's ONLY offer and it was as a safety. State wasn't the only one that missed.
-Rice didn't want to play in a wishbone offense (which State ran at the time) and chose to instead go to MVSU
-As did all other FBS schools with McNair
-This is total BS. State recruited Suh and recruited him hard. Yes his sister went to State and yes that was a selling point. He still chose Nebraska.

Sounds like the aggies should have recruited him. Y'all need a QB

Where did OM get their last 2 QB's?

They absolutely recruited Suh and thought they had a chance at him right until the end
Wouldn't he have played beside Fletcher Cox? Seems like we had another really good defensive lineman about the same time.
