I'm from Montgomery, but my first year at Bama was '06, and live in Birmingham now. The song that I assume that Sneaky Sally's username references leads me to believe that we are probably into the same stuff.

Of course. Back then, it was McAdory, Jess Lanier, Hueytown and Bessemer Academy on that end of town. I guess you could throw in Brookwood, but we didn't hang out with them as much. I knew quite a few Lanier kids.

If you will remember, Lanier had two guys who started on the 92 National Championship team.

I might have grown up with both of those guys. LOL.

Sort of knew ole Stanley White too. He was in my sister’s class, so a few years behind me. They also lived across town from us. Over by the new (at the time) Y. George was the next neighborhood over and Johnny hung around a good bit since we were all the same ages.

Little known fact. From that same class was Gene Stallings’ head manager on the 92 team.

LovetheLord: Fun fact, I played pee wee football with Stan's older brothers, Patrick and Roger. Roger was my age and Patrick was 1 year older I think. We were the Bessemer Purple Tigers back in the day. Stan was just the pesky little kid brother that hung around because of the older brothers and his daddy, who coached the team. We had a couple of pretty good teams. We even made the newspaper one year because we went undefeated and gave up 6 points all year. Our average score was something like 42-0, kinda like the 2020 Tide, only we had a defense too. Good times!

I kind of remember that team. Y’all had some fast black kid who would run back kickoffs, etc.

I was a few years back on 65 pound team standing on the sideline hoping we got a big lead.

Did any of the Doss boys play on that team? Alan was probably between us, but Sam might have been your age. Stewart Lee and John Pegues?

Yep, I played with Sam Doss, John Pegues, Willie Perry, and Stewart Lee. Pat would play QB one year, then he and the older kids would move up to the next age/weight class and Roger would play QB. I was always on the same team as Roger and Willie and every other year, we'd catch up to Pat and Stewart and them and we'd have one helluva team.

Grew up on the FL panhandle, yelling at the tv with my dad during games.

I graduated from UA in 04.

My 4 years at the capstone were the absolute worst we’ve been football wise, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

See, there’s your problem. Most of us spend 6-7 years on campus. It’s like a European five course meal. Things like this simply can’t be rushed through. They must be enjoyed.

My grandfather was responsible for me growing up an Alabama fan. He passed away at the age of 92 three hours ago.

If y'all can please send up a quick word for S.W. Jordan, Jr. He was a Titan of industry and a hell of a father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Man, I am sorry to hear that. Grandfathers are the best. My grandfather was the closest thing I ever had to a father. Raised me to be an Alabama fan from the day I was born. Prayers for you and your family.

I hate losing anyone from that generation because it is a piece of history that is lost.

We are praying for you and your family. Look to the Lord in these tough times to lift you up. Grandfathers are special and you’ll always have the great memories. I named my son after my grandfather and wish he could be here to meet him.

I am born and raised in Louisiana. My dad is a Birmingham native so I was raised an Alabama fan. We used to go to legion field and watch games there and would go to the occasional Bama LSU game when I was a boy. My aunt graduated I THInk valedictorian if I remember correctly from Alabama but I may be wrong. I do know she was acquainted with Bears daughter or granddaughter think and somehow got Richard Todd’s practice Jersey. My dad wore it for every Alabama game and now my youngest son wears it every game when we watch the games every Saturday with my dad.
