So it turns out they looked elite because they managed to dominate a bunch of shitty offenses.
Florida has an elite offense, and they would put up points on anybody. BUT the defense looked lost as frick out there again. That’s on the coaches. Thank god, there was at least some pass rush.

I hate that I’m saying this, but this kind of feels like 2018. Offense was lighting it up the whole year. Defense wasn’t good but after they shutout LSU and MSU back to back, people were calling Bama the most complete team in the nation. Terms like GOAT team were coming into play. They struggled to beat UGA in the SECG.
Clemson was iffy all year but got better by the end.
If Dickerson and Waddle were fully healthy and playing, I would be more confident but injuries are just part of sports.

Clemson also had the advantage of being able to scheme against us throughout the year that season. No way to tell if its the same case or not this season but it did happen back then.

Well we aren't going to shut them down.
If we hold Florida to under 30 points, make key stops to let our offense extend the lead and force them into field goals in the red zone I'll be very happy.
We did not and I was not

There are times when I get a lot of kinda simple cases. I win those cases pretty easily, which feels good and which can make you feel pretty good about yourself. And then I get a couple of complicated cases against the country's top lawyers and it's a completely different ball game.
Golding got himself a different ball game yesterday and it didn't look good. Golding isn't terrible, but also he isn't good enough. Time to move on.

Dude, at this point the clock has been "right" for most of the season. There has been clear growth and development with our young defensive players, and they've been dominant for most of the season. You don't have to admit anything, but that doesn't make you less wrong.
Lol I came to bump this. My response to the thread (which got downvoted) and then this was response to my post (which was upvoted). I knew Bama played some pretty mediocre offenses which kinda padded defense stats. I was afraid this would happen when we played a team with a pulse of offense.
One thing I will say, it seems obvious that FL spent 0 time on LSU and prepped for bama for 2 weeks. We will get the same luxury to whoever we play in the playoffs so let's hope we rest recover and play hard in playoffs.

Bama falls on a couple of those fumbles, and Jobe doesn’t make the most boneheaded penalty I’ve ever seen, Florida maybe scores 28-35 points. Are we still harping on Golding?
Florida has the bests offensive talent of any team NOT named Alabama. Gotta figure that in as well.

Yes. We never forced them to adjust. Forcing two goalline fumbles wouldn't have negated the fact that they marched down the field on us whenever they wanted. We had like two competent looking defensive series the entire game.

Don't forget the play where Surtain forgot what he was supposed to do. Played great defense and all of the sudden, brain fart = TD

The opening series right out of halftime told us all we needed to know about Golding. People can point to how good FL is on offense - and they're not wrong - but there is a severe lack of intensity with his defense at critical points in the game.
Opponents have a 40% chance of converting a first down on third down. That is good 72nd in the country. But of course there's always some excuse. "This player missed his assignment", "Moses took a poor angle"; "well the offensive player is just really good". Miscommunication hasn't been the only problem since he's been here.
The only thing that a Golding-led defense does well is force turnovers. There were multiple times the officials shite the bed last night in not reviewing obvious fumbles that went our way. Then Anderson makes a remarkable play at the goaline, only for Jobe to have one of the dumbest offsides penalties I've ever seen.

Wrong! We are about to play, possibly, two teams that have far better talent than UF. They are gonna torch us. Our only chance will be to outscore them and hope for a couple of turnovers. Golding is shite. Moses is slow to react and doesn't play with any intensity. I am ready to see someone else in those positions.

Super conflicted. 462 yards on 6.2 yards per play are both well below UFs averages. But we didn’t pass the eye test at all

ETA - Seriously. Anyone, anywhere.
Charlie Strong would be better.
And if he's available, Golding isn't fit to carry Jeremy Pruitt's jock.

No. Just, no. Pitts and Toney are probably the two biggest mismatches in the country. Florida can't run the ball, but those two guys present a very unique challenge to a defense that no one else in the country can replicate.
