Does Purifoy get another redshirt year or is he a junior next year?

Dunbar will be a Senior unless he redshirts..

I think he should redshirt as well. It's the only way he gets playing time unless players leave early this year.

5- SR F Danjel Purifoy **
6- JR F Chuma Okeke
7-JR(?) C Austin Wiley **

This is correct but with 4+ availability, unless Dunbar redshirts or players leave early.. right?

Ya mistyped on that one. I hope he redshirts, his athleticism and length are undeniable... Along w his inconsistent play and unpolished skills

Yep. This tells me nothing will come from this entire FBI situation. bball is the NCAA's cash cow and they know it.

Well, ok, I guess.. But there is plenty of precedent for this. So.....

Why? Marcell Dareus only served a 2 game suspension after taking $2,000 in benefits form an agent. Todd Gurley I believe was 4 games

While everyone wants to come out and say that Purifoy is different from Wiley as he was in contact, the NCAA rules are supposed to punish them similarly due to the Cam/Cecil Newton rule change

I would be a little surprised if we didn't appeal on this basis.

So if Mustapha goes pro, I hope we Target Serrel Smith who just decommit from Ole Miss

Smith is a perfect development SG for what we want to do

IYAM, the difference (based on FBI documents) between the Wiley / Purifoy rulings probably comes from the amount of "convincing" necessary for a scheme to be set up. Wiley's family took more money than Purifoy according to FBI documents

- Person to Wiley's Mother

quote:

because CW-1 was not an "agent," the payments were not "illegal," but that, nevertheless, Mother-2 should keep the relationship quiet

- Purifoy

quote:

whatever he (Person) good with, I'm [] with, I trust him 100%

but then Person said this to Purifoy

quote:

most important part is that you... don't share with your sisters, don't share with any of the teammates, that's very important cause this is a violation ... of rules, but this is how the NBA players get it done

Sheesh.. I haven't really combed through the docs because it has been too depressing for to even want to look at. But that is just downright snake-ish behavior from CP. What a scoundrel.

People desperate for cash do some terrible things

If you read the indictment, it is easy to see why a lot of people don't believe Bruce Pearl and/or other were not caught up in this specific Chuck Person scandal/indictment

- Chuck Person tries multiple times to cut out other scheme participants to increase his kickback $ share
- Chuck Person tries to get other schools' players like Collin Sexton involved in the scheme
- Chuck Person initiated scheme by searching for loans/money
- Chuck Person is pushing kids like Purifoy to go pro early, bad for team
- Chuck Person never was implicated in paying recruits to go to AU
- No other AU coach/official is mentioned in the FBI indictment

If something additional by Bruce/Staff gets uncovered, I expect it is due to the investigation shining the light on the program and not because someone else got caught up with Chuck

The fact is Persons actions worked against the program... but nobody wants to hear that... Pearls rep + FBI = guilty.

Pearl seems safe:
Jeff Goodman
@GoodmanESPN
Auburn AD Allen Greene on podcast about FBI investigation and Bruce Pearl: "The FBI investigation is a long process. We’re going through that process to make sure that we, as a university, are doing what it is that we’re supposed to do to comply. (cont’d)

Jeff Goodman
@GoodmanESPN
Allen Greene (cont’d): "Coach Pearl has been excellent in that regard and I look forward to continuing to work with him as we continue to do the very best to support he, his staff and the student athletes of Auburn University.”

It's the comments that they should have released a long time ago

"We support Bruce and stand behind him right now, he had done great things on and off the court....

But if new info gets released and that mofo gets implicated he won't take us down with him"

It's crazy to me that they took this long. No one would have negatively viewed Leath if he made a comment that said

"Right now we have no reason not to trust Bruce and support him as our coach. While we have no indication of malfeasance, Auburn is conducting an investigation to confirm our beliefs or uncover the truth.

Auburn has a responsibility to investigate and hold employees accountable to a high standard of compliance with the law and NCAA ruled. "

It would signal both support for Bruce while soothing any fears that we aren't taking the scandal lightly

No kidding. Even a tired line of “we are still gathering the facts” would do just fine. Not something along the lines of: “the NCAA is coming, yes they’re coming.”
