UCF will not finish number 1 in any poll. All of Bama's national championship were from a poll recognized by the NCAA.

Cool article, thanks for sharing. I had no idea Toledo went on a 3 year undefeated run.

a poll
No matter how bogus of a poll and regardless of what happened on the field. Right?

I am happy for them. Maybe The Committee will recognize that there is little playoff in The Playoffs when they pick teams from the sidelines over teams that won something. It is more of a beauty contest right now. There is no "playing your way in" in this system. It is more like figure skating right now - you have to just impress the judges.
FTR UGA played their way in. Bama did not. Bama may win the championship and UCF beat the team that knocked them out of the SECCG... Looks like Co-champions!
Need 8 team playoff. All P5 conference winners and 3 at large. Play first round week after conference championship games and then second and final round in format used now.

8 team playoff wouldn't need 3 at large..
All 5 major conference champions, the best group of 5 team and then 2 at large.
It won't happen because it would cut down on a significant amount of the debating involved. It's not in college football's best interests to have a clear cut format to a championship.

Yeah, because going 13-0 in the American conference and playing a terrible non-conference schedule is much more impressive than going 14-1 and beating three top 10 teams back-to-back-to-back (as UGA will have done if they beat Bama). Oh yeah, toss in a 10-3 ND team in South Bend too

I agree
One thing that would make it interesting is if UCF could get a Dr. Pepper competitor to sponsor a trophy

They mopped the floor with Auburn, who beat both Bama and UGA.

Why the frick did Auburn look unprepared to play that game?
Because it’s not at Jordan-Hare Stadium

Their AD kind of undermines it all with his argument below.
quote:
“Our wins in conference should matter a lot more,” White said. “I don’t think they gave us enough credit for beating a really good Memphis team twice. UCLA found out Memphis is pretty good. I don’t think they gave us enough credit for beating a really good South Florida team. We beat Navy at Navy. Navy had won 17 straight home games — the nation’s longest home winning streak. Those are hard games. If you’re in the Pac-12, you get credit for your in-conference games, but we don’t seem to be getting the same credit. That needs to change.”

So the frick what? It's been long established that the transitive property is useless in sports. By the way, 34-27 is not "mopping the floor" with someone.
And as long as we're playing this stupid game...UGA also beat Auburn 28-7. So why would UCF have a better claim than UGA? UGA beat Auburn by more than they did (in a much more high-stakes game no less)

As long as the NCAA recognized the poll, any team can claim a national title back then.
Now the only ones that matter are AP, Coaches and playoff national championship.

You can claim what you want, but UCF's record and body of work looks better than either Bama or UGA. If you all end up beating Bama, there's no shame in a split title.

all you ucf natty pumpers would be perfectly fine with say, bama, uga, tosu, uscw, texas, oklahoma or any top level power 5 team taking a year off from power 5. they go play the exact same schedule that ucf played this year and go undefeated. every one of you would be clamoring for them to be in the playoffs, right?

There is, and it starts with scheduling. Want to play for a national championship? Schedule P5 schools.
