You gonna pay Dabo's huge buyout and 10 million/year

$6M is not a HUGE buyout.. and it goes down to $4M in two years.

Yes Bama pays that all day.

well, by the time Bama would need him in 4-5 years, his buyout will be $2M or less, so yeah. We'll pay his "huge" buyout. Also, it won't take $10M per year to get him, probably more like $8M.

That said, if $10M is what it takes, I think Bama has shown for years - starting with Saban's hiring in 2007 and continuing during his time here - that it is willing to pay their HC the highest salary in the country. Doubt that would change with one of our own who has proven to be a championship caliber coach.

That's probably the ideal situation but Saban's 5-star pipeline means Alabama will still be good for several years after Saban is gone, regardless of coaching.

Dabo signed a contract until 2024 for $6.5 million.
Saban signed a contract until 2024 for $11.125 million.

Dabo $1.5 million signing bonus.
Saban $4 million signing bonus.

Hell, we had to deal with a $7.5 million buyout to get Mac from Colorado State. Dabo's buyout isn't a deterrent for any big time college program.

I'll say it again, I don't want Dabo, and by the time Saban retires, most other Bama fans won't either.

I get why a Clemson fan would want to believe that, but Saban will retire with a stocked roster. The next guy is going to get 5 years at least b/c they'll be too good for it to get royally screwed up (see what Les Miles did with Nick's players).

I think Dabo comes home as soon as the opportunity is there b/c he can win right away.

You mentioned his son, he'll finish playing in 4 years. His youngest will be finishing school around then too.

Also, where is Kathleen from originally? Where did she graduate college?

My dream scenario: hire Les Miles to a 4-year deal, he goes 4-0 vs LSU

The next Alabama head coach will suffer from constantly being compared to Nick Saban anytime something doesn't go right in the eyes of the fans. No coach will ever be able to focus on his program without dealing with Saban..

The same thing will happen at Clemson when Dabo leaves...

Also, Dabo is now the 3rd Highest paid Coach at a program he built. Pretty hard to leave your masterpiece

Certainly, Alabama's first choice would be The Orgeron, with Dabo second.
Joe Alleva had the foresight to negotiate a contract with DaCaochO that would require a $12 million buy out currently. This was specifically designed by Alleva to discourage poaching from Bama.

Curious as to why he isn't the highest?

I don't necessarily agree with this. Saban and Dabo are friends, so I think Saban can tell Dabo how to have most success. I also think Dabo knows the culture at Bama better than any other coach we'd go after, which would help him. He'd be the best available coach and he's proven himself so our fans would give him a longer leash than any other random hire.

This has some merit. I don't think there is a job in the country OTHER than Bama that he'd leave that for. Again, remember Kathleen and where she grew up, where most of her family is, where she graduated college, etc. It's not your typical coach/spouse deal where a spouse has no connections or tie to the "new" job.

My cousin's buddy works closely with Coach O. He only signed with LSU until the Toledo job opens up.

I know. I don't believe yours either.

Not that he won't leave for Bama, but that he would let it out there in public (to a staff member that is depending on HIM for a job) that he would. Dabo might be a lot of things, but a bad businessman isn't one of them.

After Dabo has a few lackluster seasons at Clemson, Bama fans will say that some other trendy coach will take over after Nick.
