I know why the rumors are circulating. I'm not retarded. He deserves a bump.
Im laughing at the Mizzou fans who think Martin would leave here for Missouri. Thought that was clear. My bad.

Not elite. Very good, next tier. Much better than SC.
Here's the thing.
If we offer, he will certainly take the job. If not, someone else will come calling soon and he'll take that one. He won't be there much longer.

No one thought he'd leave KState for SC.
I'd put his probability for leaving SC for Mizzou at less than 10%. But it's not 0.

Him leaving KState was a different beast. They weren't exactly throwing themselves in front of him to stop him from leaving because of the behind the scenes issues he was having with the AD.

It is most likely rumor-mongering started by his agent to renegotiate.
Renegotiate? We gave him an extension last April.

You mean like the issues he's had with the SC AD?

Just no. He can build something there for sure but sleeping giant is a joke

Sure. But it still came a little out of left field.

I hope he stays...our conference needs him to stay. If we could get a few more really good coaches we could be a really strong conference again. Even if Mike White remains at Florida over the next few years.

I think he means:
1) There is a will to be good at basketball. Our old stadium sat 12k and was one of the largest for its time. Would even be pretty large by today's standards. The current one is 18k. Part of that is undoubtedly due to bringing in non-basketball attractions to Columbia (concerts, etc.) But SC really cares about its basketball. We might have to ask scrooster but I believe there was a time during the McGuire era that basketball was more popular than football here.
2) There's plenty of pure talent in the Deep South / Mid-Atlantic. It's just hard to pry the top talent away from any of the blue bloods. Especially with Duke and UNC so close by. But hey, grabbing top in-state talent is how we reeled off all those 11-win seasons in football.

Let's see...
We are in the Carolina's, who have major programs in Duke and North Carolina. There is a shite ton of basketball talent around the area. People actually support our program. We have a big arse arena, that is one of the nicest/best in the SEC. We have all the fricking ingredients of becoming a powerhouse.
Basketball is a different animal up here on the atlantic, compared to Alabama. Now ya'll will never become anything significant, because of your football program in that state and most of the talent is raw, because of football.

You're just being silly at this point. You act like Martin is some kind of lifer at SC. He's not that old. He had to take the SC job because of the way things ended at KState. It's merely a stepping stone.
The Mizzou job is vastly superior in pretty much every quantifiable way. Better facilities, way better history, it has a major talent hub within state borders, and a larger fan base.
Yes, you are a better TEAM now but that's only because you lucked into a very good coach. When he leaves it's very likely SC returns to the same shitty program they've always been.
If you don't understand why Martin would rather have the Mizzou job then you have no grasp on the hierarchy of college sports. The ceiling is significantly higher here. It just is.
All this. We are Mizzou, you're South Carolina. If we want to take your coach from your shitty program, we will. That's just how it goes. Now get down on your hands and knees and kiss my black and gold boot, you Carolina peasants.

Except you won't. Missouri is dogshit. No coach wants to go there because it's too big of a project. You're lower than dirt.
Missouri would be lucky to sniff Frank Martins farts.
