Use judgement. Just because we have the right to several things in this country does not necessitate our taking advantage of them just because we feel like it.
What not a better place to learn wise judgement than college. How about we teach these men to be responsible... Especially when some come from broken households.

A right not demanded and used is a right forgotten and discarded.
Sorry you're askeered of the big, loud, scary gun, bro. Some of us ain't.

College taught me don't trust people and that there is evil in this world

Where is the logic here? One's choice not to exercise a right has no effect on whether it exists or not.
The majority of Americans don't own a gun, yet is this causing us to forget that it's our right to do so? No.

I guess you haven't studied much history.

Well, the obvious is the American Revolution.
You know... the war that PRODUCED the Bill of Rights? Did you think those guys just got drunk one night and wrote the BoR on a whim?

That's not an example at all. There wasn't even a 2nd amendment when that war took place.
I was asking for an example where a right was discarded or taken away because it wasn't exercised enough. That's what your post was all about.

Since when do players sign their rights away in order to try to better themselives with a college education and in some cases a shot at playing in the NFL?
frick this logic.

I'm ok with it. Specifically with Roberts' example. If he felt the need to carry a gun, he was probably leaving/going somewhere he knew he shouldn't have been.
So do you apply this shoddy logic to everyone that carries on a daily basis?

Those aren't rational reasons why you need a gun on you... Those are excuses.
How the frick is self-defense not a rational reason? (Btw with Alabama state law you can leave your firearms in a locked vehicle on campus regardless of the schools policy) But if you follow that policy or that law then you essentially give up your right to self defense until you can get home to get your carry. And not everyone lives a short 10 minute drive away from campus.

No. Thats why I said "specifically with Roberts' example"

Because you don't have the RIGHT to play in the NFL or even college football for that matter. Your rights are only protected against governmental restriction. The NCAA is not a government entity, so they can have whatever rules they want (with certain governmental restrictions on them, of course). The football team is not a government entity, even if the school is by some nature due to how it is funded and administrated. Suggesting that the coach of an NCAA football team is infringing on someone's rights (any of them, not just right to bear arms) as defined by the BoR shows a blatant misunderstanding of how that document works.

Every time the issue has come up, the attorney general of Alabama has issued the opinion that public buildings can not restrict the right to concealed carry.

Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange has determined Auburn University’s firearms policy, which prohibits the possession and use of firearms on university property, that the state’s 2013 gun law widely viewed as a victory for gun owners cannot be enforced on university campuses.

Pretty poorly worded headline, but yeah I see that. Can't enforce that law because of the universities being a 'public corporation' as opposed to a political subdivision.

During my time at Auburn, it was nice to be able to walk around on campus and not worry about needing to defend myself with a gun for any reason. I understand it's a right, but all rights should be exercised with judgement, not recklessness. If someone decides that he/she needs to carry a gun for 'self-protection' at a place like Auburn University, I would question his/her intelligence and sanity.
