Yeah....BeatBammer hits it on the head.

His football team his rules. Nothing infringing on the 2nd amendment there.....mainly because you don't HAVE to be on the team...you choose to be....same reason businesses, clubs, and other organizations are able to make rules preventing weapons or other behavior that is allowed by the Bill of Rights. You aren't REQUIRED to be there to live your life.

I did some digging around and I stand corrected.

Despite essentially saying at press conference that he doesn't want players to have guns regardless of license, etc. - - - Gus' actual written "no weapon" policy only applies on or around campus.

Does not apply universally if player lives off campus, goes hunting off campus, etc. Does not sound like this would have even applied to Stephen Roberts' situation except for licensing paperwork, etc.

My bad.

This isn't Gus' "no weapon" policy. This is Auburn University's "no weapon" policy as weapons are not allowed on campus.

Auburn University is clearly asking its students to waive their 2nd amendment rights

Which is ludicrous and should be unconstitutional.

There is no reason an Auburn student needs to possess a handgun while in Auburn. If an Auburn player is caught with a handgun, I'd like to hear a rational explanation why they considered in necessary to have.

"For self defense"
"Because I want one"

Both valid reasons to have a properly licensed gun.

Those aren't rational reasons why you need a gun on you... Those are excuses.

You actually don't have a constitutional right to carry firearms on Auburn's campus

Here is Supreme Court Justice Scalias ruling on the subject in Columbia v Hweller
quote:

nothing in our opinion should be taken to cast doubt on longstanding prohibitions on the possession of firearms by felons and the mentally ill, or laws forbidding the carrying of firearms in sensitive places such as schools and government buildings,

Even Scalia can be wrong every now and then.

You pointed out I was wrong? You didn't even address anything I've said...

I was talking about you pointing out that joeyb was wrong even though the title of his link was only making fun of the fact that the OP said Gus was clearly asking students to waive their 2nd amendment right and wasn't meant to be factual.

But I should've known better than to expect you to actually read an entire thread.

I have no idea whether he is right or wrong, I just know that whether I like it or not people like him dictate what are and are not my constitutional rights

Ya, because even though I replied to Joey, I wasn't being a dick to him just pointing out there is no constitutional right to take away. That was an informative post with a fricking Supreme Court Justice quote.

You calling out an educational relevant post to the current discussion on the thread just proves how big a dick you are

I didn't call out your post. Just pointed out that you were missing the sarcasm (which is what Ellitor was known for)
