When was the last time Bama started the season with a true freshman QB?

Clearly, our freshmen are so good they are running off seniors to start for other SEC teams. I look for this trend to be heavy this yr on this team. #freshmenbeasting

maybe during curry's reign? ... mid 80s ...

would love to see hurts start at qb and not have to worry about it the next 3 years ... i think barnett will be the one to transfer since his fiance is in cali with her own career going ...

Hurts threw a 99 yard touchdown to himself then benched 25 reps of 500 pounds at the 50 yardline

I honestly think Hurts will end up being the starter but Saban won't name him until week 2 to keep all the other QB's from transferring and leaving us with no backup. We would probably have the Hawaiian freshman kid as our #2 backup next year after the mass exodus of transfers following the season, but so be it.

As someone who knows nothing of Alabama's QB situation, what the hell happened to Bateman?

From what I've heard he just hasn't made any improvements from last year to this year. Couple that with lack of arm strength, and there you go.

If Barnett can't beat out Bateman and Hurts he's on the fast track to bust city... And I don't like to throw that bust label out with QBs until they're juniors but come on ?!? He was a 5 star coming out and it sounds like he has a true frosh on his heels.

This gets thrown around all the time on here, but...if Hurts is good enough to start this year, the SEC is absolutely fricked in the near future.

Or Saban's luck with first year starters at QB has run out and Bama will struggle to find a quality starter again next season.

What is lucky about having average or slightly above average first year starting QBs?

If Hurts starts, the SEC is most likely fricked while he's at Alabama.

Hurts was obviously underrated coming out of high school as a 4 star. I remember the staff drooling over him when they got him to camp. I see why now. Did he go to the elite eleven?

While starting a true fresh is certainly alarming, I feel strongly that it likely means he is so good that Saban has no choice but to play him. Saban is not going to name a TF the starter just because the upperclassmen have not wowed anyone. Bateman nearly took Coker's job and Coker won a title. Saban would rather start an average QB with experience any day. If Hurts starts, I think he is damn good.

Bama and Georgia both starting true freshman in the same season would be awesome

Both would start at Auburn this year. Wouldn't even be a contest.

Saban knows this isn't the year. He is going to go with the younger more mobile QB and give him the experience to try to make another title run in a few years. It's a great HC decision considering the question marks at QB all over the roster.

I'd love the hell out of it. However, I'll leave it up to the guy's that make 7 figures, it's worked out quite well.

It would drive the corny dogs crazy for Daddy Saban to start a freshman and win the SEC.
