A McDonald's customer in Arkansas accused of emptying his cup of water and filling it with soda now faces a robbery charge, police said Tuesday. The restaurant manager said the suspect was one of three people who asked for water at the drive-thru window in Springdale. The customers parked and walked into the store before dumping out the water and pouring soda into the cups, KHBS/KHOG-TV reports. The manager spotted the three and told them to return the soda. Only 18-year-old Cody Morris refused, police say.

I thought for it to be robbery it had to be over a certain $ amount?
Edit: looks like robbery is taking something with the use of force
Seems like theft would be the proper charge to me

I think the charge became more severe when the employee followed him outside to stop him and he bumped him with his car trying to get around him.

Headline's a bit misleading. If the story is accurate, John Dillinger hit the manager with his car when he was making his getaway.
I guess that's why the charge was upped to robbery. Still, it seems like whatever Arkansas calls their misdemeanor theft and then an assault charge would be a better fit.
I wonder if alcohol and/or recreational drugs were involved. They went through the line, ordered water, parked, and went inside. That's a lot of trouble for a soda.

Well, if he did that, he's in bigger trouble than mere burglary.

Maybe, but fits more with "dumb shite that kids do" to me. My first thought was not of drugs, but about being a dumbass at that age.

Maybe. I just never thought about stealing a soda and then hitting someone with my car when I was a teen.

He stole something and hit a person with his car. Twice.
Seems felonious to me.
Also, isn't that the town that Malzahn, Lashlee, and Mustain came from?

Neither did I. I would bet that they didnt foresee a confrontation and panicked, perhaps theyll learn a lesson but probably not.

I wouldn't be surprised if Mcdonalds fires this employee that followed him out. I would bet that they aren't big on having employees chase people out over something like this.
