I will never make a serious statement that involves the world scuttlebutt just FYI
I was thinking earlier about how sports talk keeps old-fashioned words in use. All these "antics" and "shenanigans." And the only time I hear "scuttlebutt" IRL is when my mom or other old ladies are gossiping. But I'm sure there are sports writers and radio hosts who use it routinely.

It is a good hire by how pissed they are.
He apparently is a good recruiter according to 247.

Choice quotes from Elite Dogs:
quote:
So the guy that kinda saved our awful recruiting class is leaving and it's a good thing? Don't be that guy.
quote:
Not judging good or bad - but since he entered coaching in 1986, Turner has never spent more than 3 years in one place. Moving on seems to be his MO.
quote:
A&M has really put together a great staff. Chavis and Turner on D. They just hired an excellent O-line coach. They have recruited very well. I look for them to be very strong the near future.
No positive spin to us losing Turner. He was our best recruiter and probably best coach. It's going to be tough to find a D-line coach at this point. May have to look to a non-Power 5 conference. Thank you Turner for signing Jeff Simmons before you left
quote:
If he left to go be a DC or even an HC, then sure go for it. But this move is lateral at best and if the reports are true he's taking less money.

Really really solid hire. A good coach who knows the SEC landscape is huge. Y'all have a great staff in place, and if Sumlin can right the ship (I know that's a big if) I think y'all will be in a great place going forward.

Now we just need to get rid of McKinney.

Honest question, not defending McKinney, I just don't know much about him: why does everybody think he's a bad coach? I know he was a mediocre OC at best, but what evidence do we have that makes him worth firing?

Can you remember the last time A&M had an elite RB? Neither can we.
Even back when the line was stocked with NFL first rounders JFF was our best RB.

I don't think we've had an actual elite RB since Toombs, and even that is debatable. And I think it comes down to recruiting and scheme more than being coached up. We definitely don't run a scheme conducive to attracting elite RBs. I'm curious to see what Mazzone does.

While I don't think you can call either of them "elite", the tandem of Cyrus and CMike was pretty damn strong

And I think it comes down to recruiting
Can't be.
Trey? a five star
Brandon? a five star
James White? a four star
Tra the starter was actually a three star.
Honestly though I can't blame all of that on any single coach though. Seems like we have an issue getting five star RBs to live up to expectations (Goodson, Michael).

Those two and Goodson/Lane have been our best combos the past decade.

RB Coaching is not that complicated so you want an ace recruiter at that spot. Not much showing that McKinney is an ace recruiter at this point. That's the knock.
