I was watching the movie Woodlawn the other night. That movie is about the integration of the Alabama school system and how football and brainwashing Christianity brought everybody together.

This is where the tradition that still lives on of players and coaches "giving all the glory to God" began.

This seems exceedingly silly and illogical to an agnostic such as myself.

Why would God need to be given all the "glory?"

I mean, if you believe a Supreme Being created and controls the entire universe, than this God would obviously consider a mere football game played by his naked apes to be very insignificant. Especially, if he's deciding which asteroid is going to strike which planet and which souls get to go to heaven and which go to hell.

Why would he give a crap if one of his creations runs 50 yards between 11 of his other creations on the field of grass he also created?

Just pointing out how ridiculous this all seems to logical thinking people.

I agree that God probably doesn't care about football games. I doubt athletic events are of much importance to him.

As a christian, I struggled with the glory concept for a long time. I felt that it was a bit goofy as well but I arrived at this conclusion about it. It's simply people saying that they don't want to be worshipped as basically a God like some in the world do to celebrities and athletes. They're saying the praise should go to God for creating the field, giving them life, giving them talent, etc.

Well if God does exist as I and others believe he does, he would pretty much be entitled to it.

God uses the glory to power his car battery. Like that one episode of Rick and Morty.

The God of the Bible says he is a jealous god. You don't have to like it, but it is what it is.

You and "logic" aren't on speaking terms, given the content of your posts

The reason the glory goes to God is because he gives us the ability to do great things and recognizing that we owe our existence to him.

Why would the supreme being care about recognition? We don't know. CS Lewis explained it in his sixpence none the richer example. If a young child asks his father for a sixpence and then takes it and buys a gift for his father, the father takes pleasure in the gift even though he is sixpence none the richer for it. It is the desire and effort of the child to show their love for their father that matters to him even if the means by which they did so was provided by the father.

Oh and another thing.

Why do players point to the sky when they give all the glory to God?

Why do they think God lives in the sky in that direction?

A soccer player playing on the other side of the world who points to the sky would be pointing in the opposite direction.

It's just astonishing to me how easily people are brainwashed.

God is in all, God is everything, God loves all of us, and wants us to be fruitful and multiply in our lives.
(except Missouri)

1 Corinthians 10:31
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

Colossians 3:17
And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Also, when you're talking about a Supreme Being with unlimited omnipotence, can you really determine what the Supreme Being pays attention to? Unlimited omnipotence would mean that the Being could see all and know all. Our human brains cannot comprehend the uberness that is God in God's entirety.

We all juggle different things in our lives, but our limited brains can only process so much information at a time. A Supreme Being with unlimited omnipotence can process all information. Think of our brains like a MacBook Pro Computer, we can do a lot of wonderful things, but our hardware/processors/RAM can only process so much information. A Supreme Being/God is the Uber Computer and can process an unlimited amount of data with an unlimited amount of RAM.

We are meant to be fruitful, multiply and give glory to God in what we do.

God doesn't need anyone's glory. He would act like He's been there before.

Well I'm no rocket scientist but it may progress something like this:

God lives in the heavens.
The heavens are another term for the sky.
The sky is upward.

He does not need it but Christians are willing to give it. I guess closed minded people like us are just not selfish like some others...

Naw. I hate debating about things like this because I really support anyones right to believe whatever makes them happy as long as you aren't hurting anyone else. Religion is however the only aspect of life people throw science and logic completely out the window and just believe fantasy stories that sound like they should be told to children as morality tales.
