Herman should be the #1 choice.....he is the person who can fix this offense fast as well.
Odom will take over at Memphis as Head Coach and Coach Kul will take over as DC at a Mizzou

5thTiger - Va Tech, Illinois, Maryland, and South Carolina are P5 jobs as well that are actually pretty similar to us IMO. Each have negatives and positives. But that is alot to compete against for the same 4 or so big names.
You sort of had me until you said Illinois and Maryland. Really...Maryland? No way. IL does not have an AD currently. The U has major issues but is in a recruiting hotbed. USCe was total crap before Spurrier but is SEC and has facilities.
I say it's USCw, Miz or VT, USCe and then the others.
Good read by BenFred in StL PD regarding Herman.

I think Herman stays at Houston. He has a good contract, that is being renegotiated. At a school close to lots of talent. His recruiting class ranks pretty close to that of Mizzou. He can wait a year or 2 to see if a blue blood job opens up.

He doesn't have to sign it or renegotiate.

What do you call USCw? That's a prime job in my book. But LA is not for everybody.

He has long states that his dream job is Texas.
It's started happening in college BBall. Mid major coaches getting close to major money, and staying until an elite job opens up.

Illinois and Maryland are B1G. That is definitely worth something as their new TV deal comes up.
Maryland is Under Armour's baby. They will be good once they get a good coach. They are what Oregon is to Nike. They are primed to be a great job with a good coach.
Illinois might be a stretch, but they have been good before. Same as South Carolina to me.
Unless you are a blue blood or serious contender, there really isn't a whole lot that distinguishes job viability.

You are right, but the major difference between hoops and football is the mid major money ISNT comparable in football. Herman is one of the top paid non power 5 coaches and there are a handful of power 5 coordinators that make more than he does.
If he takes any of the jobs he will be offered his base pay is likely to triple.
Of course, he could stay and just wait for a blue blood but what happens if Houston goes 6-6 next year? It's a pretty big risk to do so.

Longshot: Kevin Wilson at Indiana. Record sucks but lost 3 games this year by 1 touchdown to OSU, Iowa, and Michigan. Next year he wins close games. Oklahoma's OC before com7ng to Indiana.
He is very HCGP like. Does more with less.

Wilson has done a great job at IN but it is a lateral move. I just don't think we get Herman. TX is going to come open at some point which he knows, Scar and Miami have much nicer weather, and USC is USC. And maybe he likes Houston. I'm sure they will offer more money.

USC probably lands Gillingham out of Utah. There's no guarantee Strong doesn't get Texas turned around. And we do pay well, I think we have a shot.
