Meh. No telling how much money he cost Ole Miss with his little stunt. Definitely scared some students off I'm sure. So he himself possibly cost the university hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Hopefully so. This is beyond stupid.

Prison for putting a noose around a statue? I mean yea, it's stupid as frick to do, but prison?

Let's be real here. During the Baltimore riots, the fricking MAYOR told the cops to stand down while businesses were burned down. Not any arrests once that order was given.

And some fricking 18 year old doing a drunk prank = prison?

So then find out how much money he owes and fine him that, not sending him to prison

I disagree. Ole Miss has to deal with living under a microscope when it comes to racial issues and you have out of state dumbasses that come in and don't care. They go do stuff like this and it makes us look bad. I'm glad he got this sentence.
This is not about Ole Miss you idiot. This is about an idiot doing something that was stupid but has more than likely wrecked his life. Prison? Seriously?

It was an act of terror, though not as extreme as we commonly associate with terror, but terror nonetheless.

Holeee shnit. You people realize that you're helping erode our freedoms by encouraging shite like this. One day it's a misdemeanor vandalism charge sending you to prison the next day it's your son being charged with a hate crime for toilet papering a house where a black person happens to live.
He'd probably get a fine or at the worst, less time, for throwing a brick through someones window... which could've ACTUALLY hurt someone.

Maybe, but if I am the judge, I take that risk rather than slap him on the wrist and get the stigma.

Right here people. This is the fricking problem. The law doesn't matter. It's the SJW stigma

This country is so fricked with that attitude.

Yes, but it wasn't like he burned a cross on some individual black person's lawn. That would be a threat given the history of our country. This kid was drunk and did something stupid. No individual black person was threatened. Given that burning the American flag in front of veterans is considered speech protected by the First Amendment, this action would be too. Again, political correctness gone amok. Someone should talk to this kid; he doesn't deserve to go to prison for 6 months.

Burning flags is protesting certain political action. Hanging a noose over the statue of a civil rights leader causes intimidation or fear for safety. That is NOT protected, just like speech inciting others to violence is not protected speech. Yelling "FIRE" in a crowded theater when there is no fire has the potential to cause physical harm or even death to others who believe their lives are in danger. It's not protected. You can't do it.

All of this. Burning down stores and killing cops is a 'civil movement', and some frat prank on a statue is prison time

Lets not mention the BLM destruction of civil war monuments also. That's just a movement.

fricking bizarro world now

Is "kill all the Pigs" considered protected?

Meh. Just because he was "a drunk kid playing a dumb prank" doesn't excuse what he did.

6 months is more prison time than all but one of Reginald Denny's attackers received. He was the guy pulled from his truck and beaten with a brick on live TV. 91 skull fractures. I bet he was terrified.

We are so focked up as a nation.

Sue the state? Did you miss the federal part, as in, federal court and federal pen?

Prison should be for people who pose physical threats to society.

Dear Ole Miss fans: The appropriate response to this is NOT overcompensating for your school's dark past by agreeing with this bullshite.

In no sense is giving this guy jail time justifiable. It is beyond absurd.

Had they painted a clown face on the statue, it would have been nothing but vandalism.

They put a noose on the statue of not just a black guy, but a guy who pioneered integration at a large state institution with a history of racial discrimination. Not a clown face. DEATH TO BLACK PEOPLE was the message. Please tell me you see the distinction.

I do not agree with this man's actions, but it is stupid to imprison anyone for a misdemeanor. If what he did was so detrimental to society, why is it not a felony?

But from America, "the prison house of nations," what do you expect? As of a few years ago, America housed approx 25% of the world's prisoners, while only having approx 5% of the world's population. Anyone who is not blind can see that this country is prison happy.

And for those who support this imprisonment, I have a question. Who do you expect to stand up for you when you are imprisoned for not sharing the opinion of the ruling majority?

"First, they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out..."
