Hanging a noose over the statue of a civil rights leader causes intimidation or fear for safety. That is NOT protected, just like speech inciting others to violence is not protected speech.

The appropriate response to this is NOT overcompensating for your school's dark past by agreeing with this bullshite.
When you're under the microscope like Ole Miss is because of it's past, you have to push for actions like this.

Burning flags is protesting certain political action. Hanging a noose over the statue of a civil rights leader causes intimidation or fear for safety. That is NOT protected, just like speech inciting others to violence is not protected speech. Yelling "FIRE" in a crowded theater when there is no fire has the potential to cause physical harm or even death to others who believe their lives are in danger. It's not protected. You can't do it.

Of course it isnt free speech, but that doesnt mean it is worthy of imprisonment.

6 months is more prison time than all but one of Reginald Denny's attackers received. He was the guy pulled from his truck and beaten with a brick on live TV. 91 skull fractures. I bet he was terrified.

We are so focked up as a nation.

Exactly.

But according to public opinion, only white people can be racist and commit hate crimes.

I will say this. I would not have blamed the judge for just giving him a fine and some community service. At the same time, given the serious bullshite that has gone on in Mississippi, I don't blame the judge for coming down hard on him.

I would consider expulsion, probation, community service and a fine pretty severe punishment.

He is never getting a respectable job anywhere regardless with this on his record, his life prospects are seriously damaged.

You act like folks are still being lynched. You know good and dam well that "prank" didn't make black folks at ole miss think the KKK was coming for them. Your entire premise is fricking retarded.

Almost as pathetic as other fanbases constantly calling Ole Miss "racist" all the time. But when Ole Miss does something to punish such actions and distance ourselves from that troubled past, they're called "Pathetic"?
