are we supposed to know who the hell this is?
Well you did offer him a scholarship and so did urban Meyer and about 10 other schools so I would say yes.

To my knowledge this was speculated, not reported. The depth chart doesn't come out until early next week and Pinkel hasn't been particularly forthcoming about the two-deep.
I sincerely hope that Lock red shirts for a year as there is good depth behind Mauk already.
For all of Mauk's issues, his biggest strength is the 2-min type of situation. He has enough experience now, as well as a very experienced O-Line, that the offense could play more of a no-huddle, hurry up style of offense... i.e., the kind that Saban and Bielema can't stand. That's been the pattern in the past.

Maybe this is a stupid question because I don't understand college football rules but my understanding has always been that a reshirt player can still practice with the team and have his redshirt burned at any point in the season. Is this inaccurate? I ask because unless Pinkel was planning on playing him against SEMO week 1 why not just see how Mauk does before wasting a year of eligibility holding a clipboard? Like I said maybe reshirt players are limited in the amount they can practice or something...

This was my understanding as well. In fact, I thought this was the situation with GOAT Josh Dobbs.
Dumbass Butch didn't know what he had with tAlien until injuries forced him into the line-up. Yes? No?
At least if Pinkel pulls the redshirt it won't be because he can't properly evaluate quarterback talent.

I figured Mizzou would've a little down this year. But if this is true, it means they are really crap. Sure he looks good against their team in practice. But it's gonna be a loooooooong year if he plays a lot. Players like him don't start as freshmen and do well.

I can't believe Pinkel would start Lock unless it were dire circumstances.
His usual operating procedure is to groom the eventual successor by giving him a series or two a game.
I'd still be surprised if this rumor is true and he starts the season as an active player.

Personally, I would like to see him redshirt. Having this core of talented young receivers, along with Lock coming off a redshirt, could be nasssssssttttyyyyyyy.... SECfricked

So I will clear some of this up. For all the people saying that Mizzou fans were saying Mauk is the best qb in the SEC, I would like you to show me these people who were supposedly saying that. I havent seen any. The truth is, we weren't winning because of Mauk, we were winning despite Mauk. Drew Lock has been playing with our 2 offense the last couple scrimmages against our 1 defense and has continued to look sensational while Mauk has continued to look average with the 1o vs 2d. It has been evident to anyone who has seen him play that he would be the best qb in our history and has done absolutely nothing so far to make anyone question that since arriving on campus. Im not going to declare that he will win a national championship at Mizzou, but he will give us the best chance we've had, and we've been DAMN close twice in 07 and 13, 2 second halves away.
That said, he will probably get a series or two each game if in fact he does not red-shirt. He is already the best qb on our team. However, Pinkel is fiercely loyal to qb's. This does not mean the team is bad. In my opinion, the more the best qb on our team plays, the better.

If true, then Lock is actually exceeding the hype. I can't believe Pinkel wouldn't reshirt a QB when the current starter still has two seasons left and there are three other QBs on the roster.
