A common misconception among football-dumb people about interior defensive linemen is that height matters. It's one of the clearest signs of football ignorance.

So let me guess, height doesn't matter for OL either? You're an idiot.

I don't get where the notion that Anthony Johnson was lazy comes from. He was not taught properly and was not played to his strengths.

Because plenty of other Dlinemen improved over time under Brick. He was no guru, but he wasn't terrible at developing talent.

It's simple, Mack could be Drake Nevis circa 2010 or he could be Anyhony Johnson circa 2013. His work ethic will determine which it will be.

Also, saying the DT play at LSU under Chavis was anything other than good is just plain wrong. 2013 was the worst year and it was still adequate. Hell, last year LSU started and RS and true freshman in the middle and by season's end they were playing some good football.

I never said that. You do have to admit though that it wasn't scheming that made that defense work. Look at the guys we've had on d-line or in the secondary the past years and it's no wonder why the defense was so successful. The development of talent from the 2011 class onward had been pathetic.

This I can agree with for the most part, though there are a few exceptions.

My point in Mack has the physical tools to be a beast. It remains to be seen whether he has the mental makeup for it.

Height matters a lot for OLmen (although centers can often be effective even when shorter) because they need reach for pass protection. DLmen don't pass protect.

More height = longer arms. Having length at defensive tackle makes it easier to tacklw RBs, sack QBs, and bat down passes. Don't tell me that height doesn't matter. Most of the exceptions for short DTs have been guys who excel at pass rushing and are used that way.

Height doesn't matter for interior DLmen, except in that it affects mass. Height can HURT an interior DLmen, in that it gives him a higher center of gravity and makes it easier to get under his pads. If you'd ever played or coached in the front 7, you'd know this. It's elementary.

Yeah, most tall DTs don't work on their lower body strength.

Or they aren't taught to stay low and get under the OL's pads.

There's individual battles on every play and I'm taking the 6'6 DT in every single one of them over the 6'1 DT.

Short OL are superb pass rushers but are often abused in 4-3 schemes when not used to shoot gaps. You'll find that out this year.

God. You don't even know how stupid you sound. I never said that about OL. Don't put words in my mouth you no-football-knowing dipshit. You don't even know why OL needs to be tall, do you?

In 2013 the average NFL DT was 6'3 309.5lbs.

But keep blabbing about the "6'6, height is a huge factor for DT's nonsense".

The ideal size for a DT

Enough length to defend the run and pass and short enough to effectively bull rush.

But you'd rather have one that is 6'6 right?

2 inches means a lot to me.

I know it doesn't make much a difference to you Ags, though.
