University of Alabama coach Avery Johnson has offered former San Antonio Spurs teammate Malik Rose a special assistant to the head coach position, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
Rose is considering the offer to join Johnson's staff, and is expected to make a decision over the weekend, sources told Yahoo Sports.
Johnson was hired the Crimson Tide's coach in March and recently offered the job to Rose. Since retiring from the NBA in 2009, Rose has risen to prominence as a TV analyst for NBA TV and Philadelphia 76ers broadcasts. He also co-hosts a Sirius XM radio show with Frank Isola.
Rose won two NBA titles as a member of the Spurs, where he played eight seasons.

Seems like he would be more of a player development type more than someone who helps with recruiting or am I wrong.

“Malik Rose will not be joining Avery Johnson’s staff at Alabama, sources told ESPN.”
Hmm...must be a good guy. Fans on twitter are really happy about him not leaving.

Why did we even let anyone know we offered it if he turned it down that quick?

Funny I see people just now reporting that we offered lol.

I wonder if we have been lowballing people because Johnson has been turned down a ton.

Maybe Johnson going after some guys that just don't want to come to Bama.

Obviously that's the case too, but money can fix a lot of problems.

I think it is important to compare the current level of our program and the current level of the guys he was going after. He hasn't been shy about chasing big names. That's going to get more no than yes when you see where we are as a program. Hopefully in 2-3 years, it'll be shocking to see just about any assistant turn him down.
