Offenses evolved to score more points. Defenses haven't evolved to stop them.

Offenses are just as much a part of the game as defenses are. So stop saying "offense is killing football" or "The HUNH is ruining football" because they got creative and left defenses in the dust.
Why don't you tell your lazy defensive coordinators to stop bitching about how the HUNH is no fair and make them find ways to stop it. Sure it's hard to defend, but that's your DCs fault for not finding ways to stop it.

You should inform Hugh Freeze. His offense hasn't been scoring many points.

The rulebook of football is slanted to give offense the advantage. Has nothing to do with coming up with ways to stop it. The team on offense completely dictates the game and there is nothing the defense can do about it.

They have weeks to prepare for it sometimes. Like your defensive coordinator did for us. Others love to bitch about it though.

quote:Your QB sucking arse has nothing to do with the defense controlling the offense. By dictate I mean the offense completely controls how fast or slow the game is. The refs don't dictate it, the defense doesn't dictate it, the offense does. Combine that with the fact that there are about twice as many rules protecting the offense than the defense and you get what the game of football is turning into today.
Like your defensive coordinator did for us.

It was more than that and you know it.

So the defense should be able to slow the game down and substitute however fast they want to before the offense can run their play?

So the offenses found ways to exploit the defenses. So they should shut it down?

Cool. Those 30 points got you one win. We still had 9 wins to your 7 and with a tougher schedule.

quote:Offenses are babied and have many inherent advantages over the defense. The fact that the ref can't even step in to let everyone get set before a play just adds to it. Instead of empowering officials to control the pace of the game for the sake of fairness, they're being told to get out of the offense's way and just let em go. How do you expect defenses to do anything with the deck stacked against them?

Have subs ready to go at all times just like the offense does. Once a play is over, get them in and out as quick as possible just like the offense does.

Ok. So we're superior to Alabama then because we beat them?

quote:This is stupid. If you played football you'd know that offense is proactive while defense is reactive. There are personnel matchups you play. The offense is calling the shots, so there's no possibly way for the defense to be able to recognize every change and expect to have everything ready to go at the same time as the offense. Couple that with the fact that the offense can sub freely while the defense can only sub when it's even possible and it's just not even close to a level playing field.

I did play football and that's how we dealt with it. We had a base defense we would get in every week whenever we were playing someone who ran the HUNH and we would stay in it. If adjustments needed to be made, we did it during timeouts, when the offense was on the field or at halftime.

The offense and defense can only sub between plays.

Well, the defense should be quicker about getting players in. That's just the nature of the beast.
