A lot of the increased point production and move to offenses that try and get people in space has to do with a bunch of rules changes over the last 15 years that have favored that style of play. It's not one rule, it's all of them. Most importantly, we let QBs throw the ball away and we don't let DBs play very aggressively.

This is true. Receivers aren't scared to go across the middle anymore.

Someone mentioned a couple of weeks ago, a good way to neutralize an up tempo offense is to try and premeditate where a play is going before the ball is snapped. Most up tempo teams only run a handful of plays for most of the game, so the odds of doing this successfully aren't that bad. Jumping routes, play man, don't play zone and give any cushion. Could bite you in the arse, but it's better than playing soft and getting burned anyway.

Wouldn't say heavily or at all. Defense just needs to get faster.

High risk, high reward. I think Saban is a great defensive mind but this isn't normally his style is it? He usually plays it safe unless he knows for a fact that something would work.

Saban likes to mix it up. Sometimes they play man, sometimes zone. Sabans biggest problem is he likes to read the offense presnap and make adjustments with his defense. Can't really do that with up tempo.

All I have to say is Targeting and then Defenseless receivers.

The NFL has geared it's whole game towards passing to "make it more entertaining"

The Seattle Seahawks is the only football team that can play defense.

There have been numerous rule changes which favor offense. Virtually none which favor defense. /thread
