He had the Bama brand to help him. you're fricked.

quote:you should be, unless McElwain is actually calling the plays. If Nuss is your QB coach and McElwain is calling plays you are good. The fact that Saban won a NC with Nuss, and was in position to win another, is testament to how good he is. Nuss has zero feel for the flow of the game or the idea of taking what the defense gives you. I dont remember Nuss being an ace recruiter when at bama.

You're Florida University.
Bad Bitches, bitchin' weather, sluts......
You'll be fine getting 18 years old males to come there.

I don't understand why Nuss never gets any credit when he was at Alabama?
As far as recruiting, I remember him being pretty good.

Nuss was mediocre in all aspects. Not even joking. Our offense was handcuffed by Nuss.

Bama fan says Nuss sucked.
Another Bama fan said he was great.
Not worried about OC duties because I'd have to flip a coin to see which Bama fan I want to believe.
We need recruits.

I thought he was above average. Helped bring in Ricky Town as a commitment who was at the time the number one QB in the country.
He decommitted when Kiffin took over and people said "told you so - horrible hire!!" Then Kiffin got the new number one QB in the country to commit.

quote:because he was completely tone deaf as a play caller. He was a good qb coach, and he was ok at developing a gameplan, but if the game required him to deviate from that to win, he was lost. you could have filled a magic 8 ball with an equal number of run and pass plays and gotten the same effect as nuss calling a game

Think I read he helped produce a 3k passer and Bama had 3k rushing yds in a season under him.
When Groh comes as WR coach, I'm sure he will be average in all aspects as well.

He was nothing spectacular, he really only focused on QB recruiting more so than other offensive positions. I think you can give him some gimmes, but he's not gonna pull a shocker.
He did help pull off 3 D1 QBs in a class, so there's that.
Should work better with a less stressful person like McElwain, who I'm sure will have a little more control compared to his relationship with Baldwin at CSU(Baldwin called plays as a 35 year vet).

Saban apparently grew disenchanted with him. Is there a confirmed story there? That is, something besides fan speculation?

But he still managed to run very successful offenses...

Very good recruiter. Has connections out west from his days with Washington.

Nah. Bama fans love Groh. Is it okay to offer opinions if they aren't all sunshine and rainbows? Nuss wasn't a great play caller. He was an okay recruiter. Still think UF could have done better.

A very high percentage of an OC's responsibility is game planning. McElwain will be very hands on in that regard. A very low percentage of his responsibility is actual play calling in the game. Some people think this shite is like Madden where you take the entire playbook into the game and have 500 plays to call from. It's just not how it works at this level of football. Wish I could go into more, but I wont.
Simply stated, Nuss will call some plays on game day. McElwain will be heavily involved in all facets. To me, it's more important to get an OC that McElwain feels the most comfortable working with.
