Still a long season to go with better RBs to come
Not unless we face UGA in the SECCG. And we for sure won't face another OLINE/RB combo like Arkansas...
Defense played a b+ and offense a c+ and we won. I'm thrilled.
Our rushing yards given up look great if you take out the two 50 yard outliers, one of which was the 4th and 10 fake punt which is more special teams than DEFx

Agreed.
We're still young in the front 7, and this was the biggest OL in all of football. QBs like Nick Marshall and Dak Prescott might be trouble, but I don't think there's another rushing attack overall that is as good as Arky's.

I can see auburn giving us some trouble. Their spread/run is going to challenge us as we stacked 10 in the box against arky and won't be able to do that against auburn when they're running 4 wide and doing a read option.

Just looked at the numbers, and for the second half, we held Arkansas to 68 yards of rushing on 22 attempts. That is about 3.1 YPC, with longs of 12 and 17 coming on consecutive runs at one point.

I dont think we should ignore that long arse run to the 1 they lost to a tripping call that really had nothing to do with springing the play.

Here's an interesting Arkansas article breaking down the stats of the game.
quote:
The Aggies then had as many opportunities in the fourth quarter alone as they had in the previous two. Remember: the defense doesn’t control when the other team gets the ball. That’s the offense’s job. Arkansas’ inability to move the ball (18.1 percent success rate) gave Texas A&M five cracks at tying the game in the fourth quarter. Good smashmouth offenses don’t allow an opponent five drives in one quarter.

quote:You may want to rewatch that play because this is inaccurate. The foul definitely had something to do with springing it. Washington actually got up after being tripped (twice) and got within a few yards of Williams as he was spinning about 10 yards down field.
nothing to do with springing the play.
I'm fairly sure, given Williams came to a full stop as he got spun, that Washington would have been in on that play right then because you can see him beginning pursuit as he got tripped. Mastro almost caught him and, at the point of the trip, Mastro was focused on the screen and moving in the other direction and was probably 3-4 yards further away than Shaan. Without the trip that's probably about a 10 yard gain.
After that foul, Arkansas ran 20 more plays for 72 yards, including three 3-and-outs and a turnover on downs in OT.

finally found a youtube of our full game. Here's the tripping play. Watch it in slow mo. I underestimated how big of a gain it would have been. They had the ball at the 42. Think it would have been approximately a 22 yard gain without the foul but they still would have been well outside field goal range even at around the 36.
Howard, Shaan and Mastro all went for the reverse. Shaan actually reacted to the RB the quickest and while Matthews and Mastro were still going away from the play, he was turning back when he was tripped. Watts spun him at the 36 at which point Matthews overran the play. When Williams comes out of the spin at the 35, Matthews is actually 5 yards beyond him at the 30.
Given Washington was slightly ahead of Matthews as the trip occurred, there is zero reason to expect Shaan doesn't make that play at the 36. No matter how it is spun, there is simply no way you can say the trip(s) had nothing to do with the result of that play.
