Maybe they didn't want Johnson to get dinged up in the first half knowing that Marshall was out. I still don't expect Johnson to be one of the top rushers once he becomes the starter in '15. We might see him keep it 8-10 times just to keep the D from crashing the backside.

I feel like this is probably the answer. He came out and was passing at will, and Gus knew Marshall was starting the second half, so why risk injury to your backup when you know the next guy coming in is going to run it a lot and expose himself to more hits?

Except that Marshall wasn't "out". Gus said after the game that Marshall's punishment was not STARTING and they were fully prepared to put him in the game at any time, they just kept on going with the hot hand (Johnson) because there was no reason not to.
