Same here. I really REALLY want to be excited again about Bama hoops, but I will hold off until I see it first. I have zero faith in Coach Grant, but I hope he proves me wrong this season.

TRelly was the only reason we were in most of the games we won last year. When he wasn't in the game, our offense was non-existant. Now he's gone. Unless Grant has changed what his offensive scheme is, we will not score many points. He has refused to bring in a coach that can help him with that part of the game. He also has nobody to help him with inbounds plays and last second plays to get good shots when we need them. That means we lose more close games that we win. It doesn't matter who is on the floor if you don't have a good plan.

What do you consider the hiring of Reggie Witherspoon to be then?

Wait, a guy that was fired from Buffalo is your answer?

A guy with more than 10 years head coaching experience who has been brought in by multiple coaches such as Jay Wright and John Groce to help go over his offensive sets within the Reggie Rise-Up offense, so yes I would say that's an attempt to rectify our offensive woes.

14 years as a head coach, 7 winning seasons and ZERO trips to the NCAA Tourney. Sounds like he will fit right in on the staff.

That was the statement you made, which is what I addressed. Grant specifically brought in Witherspoon to help with changing our offensive plans.

Everything else you're bringing up is bitching just to bitch.

Don't even bother. He obviously didn't even know about the hire and now he's bitching about his credentials so he doesn't look ignorant...

I'm cautiously optimistic. Really that's as good as it gets for me at this point. We should be better and I'm hopeful that it's an NCAA team.

There's a lot of variables though obviously. Varidel's got sketchy knees right? Kessens and Tarrant need to be good obviously. At this point I'm not counting on a Levi,Cooper, Retin breakthrough. If it happens, great. Levi's probably the most likely.

I don't know how ready our freshmen will be, outside of Coleman I guess. Someone needs to give them some sandwiches STAT - Mitchell especially.

He wasn't brought in to be the fricking head coach.

Anyone think Hale could be a guy for us this year that averages 14-15 ppg?

Definitely. The potential was evident last season.

Hale has a ton of potential.

We've had a lot of guys with potential though over the past 5 years that haven't really panned out. I sure hope he does though.

This x 1000.

When Grant gets Bama in the NCAA the next four years or even 3/4, I'll admit I was wrong about him.

I would be borderline disappointed if he wasn't a 13 or so PPG guy.

My optimistic side says we have a number of double digit PPG guys. Hale, Tarrant, Levi, maybe Kessens. Varidel, if he stays healthy, could be near that as a bench guy.

By the way, I was a bit surprised by how big Varidel is. Solid 6'3 at least, maybe 6'4. Kessens is still wiry but maybe a bit less wiry.

Just caught up on this thread. I think the optimism isn't too far fetched this year. We lose Relly but the 2 transfers and Levi, Jimmie hopefully coming along honestly should fill that gap offensively. Scoring should be fine.

Defensively we should be solid. What made me mad about last year is that we didn't even defend well, and that's what Grant's teams are supposed to bring.

A quick, strong pg in Tarrant. Levi we know is good defensively and is a heady defender. Coop improved and can defend a little bit in the post. Hale is not all there defensively 1 on 1 and has feet that sometimes are a step too slow. I can see some teams going at him. Kessens is sneaky athletic and really a crafty player, my question is "How tough is he? Is he soft?"..and Taylor brings rim protection teams wish they had, just needs to be smarter and try to avoid foul trouble.

Agree. I see Varidel having occasional games where he'll get 18 then some where he gets 7 or so. I think Hale, Ricky, Levi, Kessens can all average 11-13 PPG.

I'm more concerned about rebounding, only because last year Coop led us with 4.6 and that we ranked LAST in the league last year.

You gotta figure that Taylor getting more minutes and getting bigger will be able to pull some down. He can sky, his 2nd jump is just so slow. Hale had a couple near double- doubles last year so hopefully he can be more consistent.

I have a good feeling about Kessens rebounding. Particularly on the offensive end around the rim.

The freshmen--

Coleman will be exciting to watch on the break, and he's got a quick shot that is $$$.

Devin Mitchell I don't expect much out of, maybe a shooter off the bench this year, a good guy to have on your team though.

Riley Norris I think can provide some minutes. He will have to really lock in defensively early in practices and prove to CAG that he can defend to see the court.

Jeff Garrett I think will be one of our favorite players this year. He will provide depth and has all of the tools to be a good player in this league. He's bouncy, tough, and can shoot a spot up 3. Wouldn't be surprised to see him take some of Cooper's minutes and average maybe like 5pts 4rebs a blk and a stl.

I'm excited, it's not even football season.
