GA: first off, Savannah isn't a "town", it is a "small city".

As for towns, I would go with Thomasville, GA as a place to live. For its size, there are lots of things to do, good places to eat, and quite a bit of nightlife/arts.

Athens has an unfair advantage over other GA towns just because the University really makes it a small city, but it has just about everything I want in a town.

As for TN: Sewanee is about as beautiful as it comes, but it is pretty much the University of the South and nothing else.

In Tennessee, undoubtedly Roan Mountain... Epic views, best part of Appalachian Trail in my opinion

Gotta give that one to you - Sikeston is not pretty country. I was born there. But north if Benton, where it gets hilly, is really pretty.

Haha, I like Sikeston a lot. Not for any discernible reason, but I like it. Small World.

The whole being a souless, cultureless, cookie-cutter slice of suburbia removes most of the charm.

Ocean Springs has turned into a really nice coastal community and town. Investments made there have played off, not unlike what was done to Oxford in the 2000's. Until fairly recently, not a lot of people around here understood the dividends of improving infrastructure, attracting business, and improving quality of life.

it's just a bit touristy for my taste which I presume is why you might be calling it "trashy" but I don't think that's really fair at all. It's a really nice place with some great house brews and small strip of shops and a few "hotspot" places if you're in a festive mood.

It's the clientele and everything. Not saying it isn't fun, but its definitely trashy

Surprised nobody from GA has said Helen. Visited there last fall and though it was awesome Helen, Ga

Was there about a month ago for a weekend and had a blast. Good beer and good food in a small town that looks like Germany.

Heard. I was just curious why it was mentioned so much as I've never been. My best friend from college is opening up a second restaurant there soon. Murky Waters. Check it out all you coasties.

I honestly typed that without reading the other responses. Have you ever been? Beautiful city and oldest permanently inhabited city in state. D'Iberville is also a very nice place.
